For the first time ever in Voice history, the end of the blind auditions and the beginning of the battle rounds were included in the same episode. For the remaining contestants that still had to audition, it was harder than ever to get a chair turn.

Adam was the first coach to lock his team down when he nabbed R&B crooner Nathan Hermida after his version of Miguel's "Sure Thing" caught the attention of both the Maroon Five frontman and Christina. He's got a smooth voice that is always a favorite on the show, similar to the likes of Javier Colon, Jermaine Paul, and Matthew Schuler.

Pharrell added unique artist Paul Pfau after his performance of Frank Sinatra's "Fly Me to the Moon" and completed his team with a very special artist by the name of Caitlin Caporale. Caitlin came onto the show with her eye on Christina's team because Christina is her favorite singer of all time. Unfortunately, Christina had just completed her team with Vance Smith, an R&B artist that needs a bit of work but has plenty potential so she couldn't turn her chair around. She sang one of Christina's old tracks that she cut with Alicia Keys, "Impossible" and Christina was trying in vain to press her deactivated button. She sang with so much power that Blake remarked that she has a "700 lb. voice". She chose Pharrell as her coach but Christina wanted to do something for her since she couldn't add her to her team, so they sang the song together. She may be on Team Pharrell, but something tells me Christina will save a steal for her during the battle rounds!

Ever the procrastinator, Blake was the last one to fill his team. He turned down several artists waiting for that something special. He found that in Hannah Kirby, a girl with a voice so unique she had ALL the coaches trying to press their deactivated buttons.

As the coaches prepared to go into battle, they each enlisted their season mentors to help coach their teams. Christina tapped Nick Jonas, while Blake enlisted Meghan Trainor. Adam brought in electro-queen Elle Goulding and Pharrell smartly added Lionel Ritchie to his team.

For the first battle pairing go the season, Pharrell paired Ashley Morgan and Mia Z for ZZ War's "Put the Gun Down". During rehearsals, Ashley struggled with shedding her backup singer background and not being so technically perfect. On the other hand, Mia had to improve her technique as Pharrell pointed out the imperfections in her vibrato. In the end, the imperfections won when Pharrell chose Mia as the winner, but Ashley won't be leaving us quite yet because all three coaches attempted to steal her! Christina won that battle!

The battles were pretty good tonight, with a few exceptions. I thought James and Tanya's version of PYT was lackluster although they both have good voices. I was looking for more from Tanya, but at least she won the battle.

The best performance of the night had to be between Brian Johnson and Joshua Davis. They performed "Knockin on Heaven's Door" and it was so beautiful that it brought Meghan Trainor to tears during rehearsals, a first for the Voice. Blake somehow made the difficult decision to go with Brian as the winner, but Joshua was quickly stolen by Adam. They both deserved to stay in the competition.

Stay tuned for tomorrow night as the battles really get underway!
