All the hype surrounding James Franco and Seth Rogen's attempt at surviving for 21 days Naked and Afraid was just that... hype. No one really thought they participated, not really. Maybe this was their attempt to bring humor to the Discovery Channel through a parody episode. "Can you make the blur bigger?" Rogen asks the producers. Was their mission accomplished?
James Franco says he has been training for this show simply by watching it. Apparently the several roles he has played as an actor is all the preparation he needs. Nothing like Rogen who claims Jewish summer camp as his expertise.
Bringing things like toilet paper (that Seth doesn't share with James after they drink dirty water) and a pair of sunglasses (they try to use to start a fire) instantly proves that this is far from a real survival challenge. Nonetheless they assign them PSR scoers. Seth's PSR is 1.1 while Jame's PSR is 1.3... the lowest scores in the shows history.
They incessantly speak to the camera crew, namely Fred, even though the show has a strict protocol about not acknowledging the crew. Fred never responds and the camera never shakes so perhaps Fred doesn't really think it's funny, either. He does come in handy when it's time to find their "extraction point". The "disoriented" pair are meant to hike 6 miles to their extraction point but I'm pretty sure they walked 100ft. Just follow Fred, guys. He knows how to keep you from getting lost.
It was painfully obvious they did not starve or have freezing sleepless nights because their constant pretend whining was too perky. Regardless, they were given final PSRs. Their new combined PSR was 0.3. So.... they suck at being Naked and Afraid. It would have been hilarious if they sincerely participated. Maybe now that their new movie won't be released they'll have time to call Discovery back.
