Short of the big reveal, tonight was the biggest night for the contestants. They completed what very well may have been their last performance on The Voice stage, or any stage for that matter.
Many of our contestants, like Damien, came to The Voice because they were so tired of hearing no, but a few of our finalists were already up to professional par. Damien and Craig were born to sing, but Matt and Chris (especially Chris) have blossomed before our our very eyes!
Each contestant was given an original song chosen by their coach and they got to record it, shoot a video for it, and perform it on stage. The only time the producers did this was with Season One winner Javier Colon and I thought it was one of the best parts of the show so I was happy to see them bring it back. Damien did a song called Soldier, which I would totally buy on iTunes and Matt's single "Wasted Love" is a surefire hit. Craig's single, which was originally intended of Blake was good, but I'm just not into that dirt road country music. I'm more into pop country. Chris had the best original single hands down with "Velvet." It was very reminiscent of Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake and was perfect for him.
I believe Chris is definitely one to watch for tomorrow night. Pharrell said that with him, a star was born on The Voice because America watched him find his niche, grown and develop into the awesome artist he is today. Seriously, if he doesn't win, Justin better call him and sign him so he can manage his competition! The boy is awesome!
The other contender is Damien. Both Damien and Adam agreed that he needed to step it up for the finale. The problem is, Damien is already so high on the totem pole that there isn't much room for him to go anywhere. That's both a compliment and a curse. He had his best performance ever with Adele's "Someone Like You" and charted at number 7 on iTunes, but he still didm't make the Top 3. He and Adam chose this song for a simple, understated yet emotional performance of "A Song For You". He reminded the viewers why he deserves to win without seeming desperate or showboating. Gwen called his performance "gorgeous" and his coach Adam called it "one of his best."
Stay tuned to see what happens tomorrow on The Voice Finale!
