The Voice: Nervous Yet?

It's the last battle round before the finals! Shakira's first pair, Clarissa and Dani, chose to sing "Perfect" by Pink, a performance that I would deem a little less than perfect. There were a few faulty notes that stood out in the beginning. Of the two, Dani seemed to have impressed Shakira most. She was able to hold her spot in the competition tonight.

The next battle was a little more interesting. The beloved Dawn and Hawkes battled Kat on team Adam. This was an interesting match because Dawn and Hawkes have a cool laid back finesse while Kat is a power jarring rock star.  I suppose Adam picked Kat to go against the married couple because he felt she would be the only one who had a fighting chance against them; they are really good.

Kat came out on stage so confident and was able to hold her own against the duo while singing the hit song, "Suddenly I See." Although Dawn and Hawkes had a beautiful effortless performance, Kat's star quality overruled them as she demanded the stage, forcing Dawn and Hawkes to appear as back-up singers.Kat of course was the winner of the battle.

Melissa and opponent Music Box, choose Alicia Key's "Girl on Fire" as their song of the night, which actually disappointed me because I was hoping they'd choose "What a Girl Wants" by Christina Aguillera. Whatever. Both girls have powerful voices. Usher stole Music Box from Shakira in the last battle, after falling in love with her unique tone. Melissa was also impressed and eager to go up against Music Box.

During training Chris Martin gave the girls some good advice, telling them to act as if they wrote the song themselves so they could better inherit the lyrics. They clearly applied his suggestion during their battle because the performance was awesome! Initially, I thought Music Box would take the gold, but Melissa actually showed off tonight and was able to sweep Usher's vote. She swept mine too.

Blake's stars Kaleigh and Ryan took a chance and sung "Easy" by Rascal Flatts. Niether artists are country singers but they were still able to do the song justice. Ryan' s clear tone and pitch was undeniable and forced Blake to keep him in the competition.

Usher's members Britnee and Jake were chosen to go head to head just as they were becoming friends. They were both ex-members of team Usher, and ironically chose to perform his song "Climax". Now I love Jake, but honestly, I think Britnee won that battle. Her tone was incredible and when she hit certain notes she seemed unstoppable. Apparently, Shakira and Blake were quite impressed with the raspy falsetto he did with the song. But I don't think falsetto is what got him picked tonight. Jake is young and inexperienced, but his talent is that of someone who's been singing their whole life. Adam could not seem to depart with this just yet so he kept this star pupil.

Last but not least, Usherians Bria and Madilyn both had the goods. Bria captivated the audience as soon as she opened her mouth. The two sang "I'll Stand by You." Listening to Bria sing at a softer regimen was very interesting. I love her interesting sound, but she definitely has to hold back sometimes. Is it just me or does anyone else think that Madilyn looks like she could be an offspring of Emma Stone and Dakota Fanning? She's ridiculously sweet and has a voice to match. Unfortunately her voice was no match for rocker Bria, but that does not mean she has to go home!

Blake really liked Madilyn and decided to steal, propelling her to his team. Usher then confessed that he's a little afraid of what Blake could do with Madilyn's voice. I too believe there's an evolution coming soon from the voice of miss Madilyn.  The competition is getting tougher and tougher. I'm ready to see what tomorrow brings!
