The Voice Battles Round 2: Clean Up Your Act!

The Voice aired six battles that would make your head spin Monday night . Not only that, but Coldplay's lead singer, Chris Martin, graced us with his presence and gave the performers some great advice. Two very different styled singers took the stage from team Blake and sang Miley Cyrus's "The Climb." You may have thought rocker Meagan was going to take the win, but country singer Audra stunned us all with her by tearing down the house with her power and accuracy, a great way to open up the show. She was able to keep her spot on team Blake.

Usher broke my heart when he paired up Cierra, who he stole from team Shakira in the last battle, and TJ. They were both soul singers so the match made sense, but who wants to see phenomenal voices like theirs go home? Their song of the night was "Get Here" by Oleta Adams. Judges thought Cierra would steal the performance away because this song is a woman's song, but TJ proved that he is not one to underestimate. He took on the challenge and executed it with grace and personality. Ultimately, the two of them put on the perfect duet making it hard for Usher to choose. His fellow co-judges didn't do much to help his decision.

I found it comical that Adam, instead of picking a singer, took the time to insert a shameless plug by saying, "I feel bad for these other singing shows out there, because this one's the best!" ...Yeah thanks for the help Adam. Though they both deserved to stay Usher choose for TJ to remain on his team, sending Cierra back home to Alaska.

Blake, once again decided to put two opposites up for battle, Jake and Tess. John Hiatt's "Have a Little Faith in Me", would seem to be out of pop singer Tess's league, but she proved that she can take on whatever is thrown her way. The were both excellent, but in my opinion, Tess won that battle, and three other judges seemed to agree. Shakira was lucky enough to steal Tess away.

Did I mention that Chris Martin showed up to help coach? Just thought I'd reiterate that. Christina of team Adam was nothing less of starstruck when she came out to find Mr. Martin waiting on stage. She wasn't too shy to tell him that his song "Violet Hill" was the best song ever. She and Sam chose to sing "Counting Stars" by One Republic, an interesting choice for two ladies.

During training Adam told them that their sound was all over the place, and not in a good way. But when it came to the real battle round, they were able to blow him away and make his final decision really difficult. Sam had an exotic sound, but it appeared that she still hadn't found her voice. When it came time to hit big notes, she was less than impressive compared to Christina; who sounded ripe and jubilant. She of course kept her spot on team Adam.

Shakira put Patrick and Josh in the ring together. They sang "Run to You" by John Adams. Chris Martin made an awesome suggestion when he said they needed a prop. Once given a mic stand, Patrick began to preform the song a whole lot better. Finally, it was time for the true battle. Josh did a nice job singing with control and hitting some amazing runs, but Shakira chose to keep Patrick, who she thought she could coach better.

Of course, The Voice always end us on a high note... pun. Adam blew the roof off when he matched Delvin and Josh for a showdown. These two singers are unique and soulful, and both have their own hidden skill. "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" was just the right song to show off their vocal personalities. During training Adam quickly realized he made a stupid mistake by putting them together.

After their performance he said, "This is a tough decision because I loose either way." You got that right Adam! All the judges said Delvin won because of the surprising big voice he had. Despite this, Josh was still amazing with so much soul and distinction. I could see on Usher's face that he was hoping Adam would pick Josh so he could steal Delvin. Adam, however, was not ready to give up Delvin so Josh was sent packing.

But wait! Josh wasn't going home that easy. Usher was still wise enough to grab Josh adding a little more extraordinary to his team; a wise decision on his part. Tune in next time to be amazed by the other half of Battle 2!
