Travis and Nicole Jasper of The Amazing Race 23

On last week's finale of The Amazing Race, married doctors Travis and Nicole Jasper struggled through their final leg in Alaska. Several mistakes throughout the course of the leg cost them too much precious time that they weren't able to make up. They arrived at the pit stop in third place and were clearly disappointed after making it as far as they did. We talked to the pair after the finale about the dynamics of their relationship and their proudest moments in an exclusive interview.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: How were the two of you feeling coming into the race, as you sized up the other teams?
A. Travis: I was confident in what I thought we could accomplish ourselves. I never really went into it thinking how we compare to them.
A. Nicole: I agree. I didn't spend that much time really sizing up the other team. I think I spent more time figure out where everybody was from and what their story was.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: You were very adamant about getting Leo and Jamal out because you didn't trust them. Can you elaborate more on your issue with them?
A. Nicole: Well I think that the situation between us and Leo and Jamal wasn't as accurate as it was. Our concern was that they were strong competitors without having to be dishonest so we were always perplexed by that. We were asked about that over and over and every time it was, it seemed like it showed up on television. It wasn't that we had ill feelings, we were just confused why they had to do it. It didn't make any sense.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: You ran much of the race working with Amy and Jason. Tell us about that partnership.
A. Nicole: Amy and Jason ended up being great friends. They had such great energy and were such positive people and I think they felt the same way about us. That naturally drew us to one another and it just so happened that we decided to work together and help each other when we could. There were a lot of times that we didn't see them but when we did, we were always willing to help them but they weren't the only team that we were willing to help. The majority of the teams were doing that minus Leo and Jamal. It was interesting how so many teams were working together because it came so naturally.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: How did you get up that glacier in Alaska with only one pick?
A. Nicole: It was just like everything else. I decided I wasn't going to give up. I was going to climb up that glacier and used this inner fortitude to reach the top.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: On several occasions, Travis was portrayed as being very disappointed in you, Nicole, and you being very stressed out about that. Do you feel the race aggravated that aspect of your relationship?
A. Nicole: I think that they focused on what they thought would be good television. Travis and I weren't the most dramatic team. If there was a potential dynamic there, they used it. Most of the interaction we had, on and off camera, was very positive. There were obviously times when Travis was frustrated and that made for potentially good television.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What was your proudest moment of one another?
A. Nicole: My proudest moment for Travis was when we were rowing in Chile because I knew that his oar was not working well and he was rowing that boat with one oar. He was tired and reaching deep and I was trying to encourage him. I was just so proud how he bit the bullet and knocked it out.
A. Travis: That's funny, it's in the same leg. I didn't get to see it all, but when Nicole had to follow me and I was paragliding. Watching her run down the beach with the backpacks, I was very emotionally moved. I knew how heavy my bag was. To watch her power down there and really dig in, I was really happy at that moment.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: At the finish line, you talked about your kids being proud of the race you had run. What has it been like to watch the season with them?
A. Nicole: They've been so excited watching with us this season. We've had them involved in this process from the very beginning. When we left, it was a sacrifice for them also. Getting to see this come to fruition this season was great. They've been excited and anticipating each Sunday nights, staying up late, and seeing Mommy and Daddy on television. I think it's been a great experience.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What's happening for you both now that the race is over?
A. Nicole: We are definitely back to our everyday lives but our lives are already adventurous. We see a lot of pretty dramatic things in our lives, working in an emergency room. If there's something you want to do in your life, within reason, do it. None of us knows what tomorrow will hold. I ask Travis, "What's going to be the next life adventure?"
A. Travis: I know what it's going to be. We need to figure out how to take those vacations that we won on The Amazing Race!
