Phil Keoghan on the finale of The Amazing Race Season 23

We've arrived (almost) at the finish line this season on The Amazing Race. Amy and Jason are the first to open the clue and find out teams are headed to Tokyo. Along with Tim and Marie, and Travis and Nicole, the three teams form an alliance to get Leo and Jamal out next. It would make sense for the teams to all stay together but the Afghanimals, with a speed bump ahead, decided to make a risky move and separate to take their own flight. Thankfully for them, it pays off and gives them a 10-15 minute advantage.

The alliance crumbles as soon as teams touch down in Japan, when only two taxis were available instead of three. Everybody for themselves! At a temple, teams face a Detour with the choices being Knock It Down, playing human bowling, or Call It Up, making a phone call from inside a fish tank. You gotta take Knock It Down all day long! Who doesn't love a good Japanese game show?

The task is equally hilarious and difficult, with Leo and Jamal making multiple attempts, but they finish first and maintain their lead. Jason and Amy and Nicole and Travis lose Tim and Marie, completing the phone call task, while the exes are left in last at the bowling challenge.

Leo and Jamal stop for their Speed Bump, where they must capture an escaped rhino (aka a man in a crazy costume) from the zoo. Meanwhile, the alliance of two move on to the Road Block, where one person must build a robot based on a tiny model. While Amy and Nicole decide to work together, Leo and Marie take it solo.

After an amazing comeback performance, Tim and Marie find a traveling vending machine with a clue leading them to their Pit Stop, located at a shrine. Teams arrive in the following order:

1. Tim and Marie (win a trip to Aruba)
2. Jason and Amy
3. Travis and Nicole
4. Leo and Jamal

They ran a heck of a race but Leo and Jamal came up short just when it mattered most and thus, we say goodbye to the Afghanimals.

The race continues with the final three teams headed home to the USA, and to Juneau, Alaska. First up is a speedboat trip to a Road Block, and one team member will take a plane trip to make a supply drop. Amy is the first to complete the task, and she and Jason are headed to a glacier to make an ice expedition to find their next clue.

Amy and Jason continue their lead, finishing first, and head down to the lake to kayak across and find their next clue. Meanwhile, after several attempts at the supply drop, Nicole drops one of her picks climbing the glacier, costing her and Travis even more time. Teams take a helicopter ride to Blueberry Hill Trailhead, where they must build totem poles with the symbols for every currency from every country they visited. That may go down as one of the toughest memory challenges yet!

Once that's complete, it's a race to the finish line and the team to cross it first is... JASON AND AMY! Heading into this leg, Jason said they were one of the best teams to ever race, which seemed like a bold statement, until they crossed that finish line. Tim and Marie finish second, splitting the money 60/40 per her contract (true story), while Nicole and Travis take third place.
