Alexia Echevarria of Real Housewives of Miami Season 3

by Gina Scarpa and Thea Napolitano

Despite the fact that Alexia Echevarria has had a lot to deal with in the last year, she manages to keep it all together. The Real Housewives of Miami star has been juggling her career, as editor of Venue magazine, with the trials and tribulations of raising two boys. Luckily, her devoted husband Herman is always by her side but even he can't protect her from the drama with the other women on the show. We talked with Alexia today about life, love, and the ladies of Miami in our exclusive interview.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: You've been through a lot in the last year and that can really take a lot out of a person. What are some things you do to help cope with stress?
A. Alexia: Well, I just took up spinning so that's been helping me. I have 45 minutes to myself without a phone. I'm just with myself and my mind and I'm focusing on me. That's been helping me lately! And religion... I pray at night when I'm so stressed out. Sometimes, the only way I can fall asleep is through praying. My mom is also very instrumental in my life. She's a psychiatrist so I feel like I can speak to her. She's very therapeutic. You know, my friends and my family are very supportive. Going out once in a while, having fun, drinking champagne... that helps.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: How has this season been different for you compared to the first two?
A. Alexia: The first season, you don't' really know what you're doing. The first season was very different and it was a short season. I still had the same role. You've always seen me as the mom. Family comes first. Season 3 has been very strong for me because I'm recovering both of my boys. After the tragedy that we went through, people don't realize all of the ramifications. My role hasn't changed, you're just seeing more of it. You're seeing a little more of my work but you're seeing a little more of me, and a little more raw. It's more real and I'm opening up.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Being the fashionista that you are, what's one of your favorite trends going on right now?
A. Alexia: Oh my god, I love leather! I'm wearing it right now. I'm in New York and brought all my fall stuff. It's leather jogging pants and they come to the calf. I'm loving the leather and I like that rocker look with the studs.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: This season has been the battle of the brides. Whose wedding did you have more fun at?
A. Alexia: I had fun at both of them! Both of their weddings were very different and at Adriana's wedding I had Herman with me. I was by myself at Joanna's wedding because Herman was unavailable. You'll have to watch because I have a big surprise in Joanna's wedding. Even talking about it, I have goosebumps! Adrianna's was a bit more meaningful because I'm closer to her and I was a bridesmaid but Joanna's wedding was meaningful to me as well.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: When you look ahead in the future, 5-10 years from now, do you see yourself talking to all of these women?
A. Alexia: I don't know about all of them but I see myself still talking to Lea, Marysol, and Adrianna. Joanna and Lisa, I don't know. I see Joanna making her life more in LA. I don't predict the future but I can see myself talking with them. Time will tell. Joanna, yes. Lisa, we'll see.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: If you had to choose one housewife from any series to be stuck on a deserted island with, who would you pick?
A. Alexia: I would probably wanna be stuck with NeNe. She's so funny and she's just so much fun. I think she would be resourceful as well. I think she'd figure out a way to get us the hell out of there!
