Desiree Hartsock of The Bachelorette Season 9

by Gina Scarpa

Desiree is having an extremely difficult time making peace with Brooks' abrupt exit on The Bachelorette, understandably so, and sits down with Chris Harrison to hash it out. As soon as he asks how she is, she breaks down and say she wants to go home. There's just one slight problem... two, actually. There are still two guys here, that are madly in love with her and want to propose. Desiree chooses to go through with the next rose ceremony, but how will she handle it?

Despite being very emotional, Desiree pulls herself together to let Chris and Drew know what happened with Brooks. She promises that she's taking each relationship individually, but I wonder if they'll still believe that after having seen last week's episode. Of course, they both accept their roses and this journey apparently is continuing.

Desiree meets up with Drew and realizes she's not feeling a future with him. Before she tells him though, let's make sure he enjoys a horseback ride, a picnic on the beach, and gives a toast about being madly in love. In typical, classy Drew fashion, he handles it extremely well, telling her not to be sorry for not feeling the same way he does. After their goodbye, he tells the cameras he doesn't get it. He will, just not now. It's all gonna be okay, Drew. Despite those purple shorts, it's gonna be okay. Who's ready to launch a Drew For Bachelor 2014 campaign?

As soon as Desiree's date with Chris gets underway, he reassures her that he loves her and will always be there for her. These are the words she needed to hear! After a day out on a catamaran, the two share a romantic evening in his suite. He gives her a journal with all the poems he wrote for her. There is something so sweet between them but as I watch, I can't help but worry that Brooks will come back and screw this up. Chris is the one Desiree should be with!

Chris is a brave fellow for meeting Desiree's family, not because of her parents, but because her unpredictable brother Nate is there too. It takes all of three seconds for Nate to start firing off the questions, but in a way that seems like he's trying to make things uncomfortable. He also pulls Des aside to ask her about Brooks, which almost causes her to break down again. Thankfully, things go better with Des's dad, when Chris gets permission to propose.

When it finally comes down to the big moment, Chris tells Desiree that he's been in love with her for several weeks and wants to spend the rest of his life with her.  Just as he's about to get down on one knee, she stops him to explain a few things.  First, she tells him that she said goodbye with Drew and that he's the only one who met her family.  She also reveals that she was torn between him and Brooks throughout much of the season.  After Brooks left, Des realized that the one thing she needed was in front of her the whole time.  She finally tells Chris that she loves him and wants to be with him too.  After a lot of tears, and a lot of I love yous, he gets back to the proposal.  She said yes, people!!  Desiree gets her happy ending and I was wrong all along... for the record, I'm totally okay with it.
