The Voice Season 4 Sarah Simmons

by Jessica Blackwell

Last week, America chose their favorites, and this week, the Top 10 will sing their hearts out in an attempt to advance further into the competition. Boy time flies! It seems that it was only yesterday that we were in the blind auditions, and by the end of this week, the number of contestants will be in the single digits. After a great performance by Maroon 5, the artists got down to business. Here are the night's best performances:

Holly - Team Blake

Blake gave her the song choice and it turned out to be a very appropriate song to open the show with. Given the recent tornados that ravaged Blake's home state of Oklahoma,  the gospel song "How Great Thou Are" was a beautiful melody to start begin with. It seems that Holly has really come into her own as an artist, and sang with more confidence and power than she ever has.

Judith - Team Adam

Adam gave her "The Way You Make Me Feel" by Michael Jackson and given her history with Michael, she was apprehensive about performing it. For those of you that don't remember, she was scheduled to go on tour with Michael and even rehearsed duets with him before he passed away. She didn't want anyone to think she was exploiting his memory, but her performance ended up being a beautiful tribute. She mixed up the tempo, starting off slow and then transitioning into the feel-good, upbeat song that we all know and love. She did a great job!

Sasha- Team Shakira

Shakira decided to mix Sasha's style up a bit. Since she tends to perform classic songs, Shakira gave her the Top 40 hit "Next To Me" by Emeli Sandé. Sasha did a great job, and I do feel it was one of the best performances of the night, but she seemed a little like a fish out of water. I think classic songs are where she shines, but her voice still sounded beautiful.

Sarah - Team Adam

Sarah wanted to kick it up a notch, so she performed the rock song "Mama Knows Best" by Jessie J and blew it out of the water. She took her past experiences with men who didn't treat her right and taught them all a lesson with this sassy anthem. As usual, she impressed all the judges and I'm sure all of America.

Michelle - Team Usher

I always look forward to Michelle's performances, and as usual, she did not disappoint me with her version of Pink's "Just Give Me A Reason". Her coach, Usher dubbed it the performance of the night. He may be a little biased, but he's right - she's amazing.

Tomorrow night, we find out who will stay in the competition and who will pack their bags and hit the road, leaving the last eight contestants standing. Stay tuned!

The Voice airs Mondays at 8pm, EST on NBC.
