Candice, Angie, Kree, and Amber of American Idol Season 12

The finale is so close, the final four women on American Idol can almost taste it! It's probably why the judges were feeling some of the performances this week were lackluster. You need to be able to handle the pressure though, if you're going to be a successful artist. The girls perform "Crazy In Love" which is apparently on The Great Gatsby soundtrack. Ah, that's right. Baz Luhrman does like to use current songs for his movies set in other time periods. The fly girls have returned to stomp around while 87 background singers make it impossible to pick out the voices of Angie, Candice, Amber, and Kree.

As always, Jimmy has some strong opinions and harsh words for the performances, but that doesn't necessarily means he's wrong in his assessments. He starts off with Angie, saying she had a chance to take the competition over last night but she wasn't great. Fair enough. He felt Amber sounded like she was singing karaoke, mostly because she didn't have the time to learn "Just Give Me A Reason". Then she shouldn't have picked it! When you can choose current songs, why pick one you don't really know? His biggest compliments went to Candice, saying Bruno Mars should write a song for her, and that she's head and shoulders above the other women. As for Kree, Jimmy felt she wasn't at her full potential and was good, but not great.

Idol take a page from Instagram and does Throwback Thursday, with Season 7 Winner David Cook performing his new song "Laying Me Low" and a video update from Season 4's Constantine Maroulis, who is currently starring in Jekyll and Hyde on Broadway. will.i.am performs a showstopping number from the Gatbsy soundtrack, "Bang Bang", and Harry Connick debuts the title song from his album of originals, entitled "Every Man Should Know"

The women have sat patiently for 52 minutes and ready to find out their fate. After Nikki praises the viewers for getting the best four to the Top 4, it's time to make that a Top 3. Angie and Candice are guaranteed safety, and will definitely be going on hometown visits, while Kree and Amber sit in the bottom two. Ryan reveals that Amber is going home, which isn't surprising, but I'm still sad to see her go. She let the pressure get to her towards the end, but hopefully good things come her way!

American Idol airs Wednesdays and Thursdays on FOX.
