Amy Whitcomb of The Voice Season 4

by Gina Scarpa

If you blinked during the blind auditions of The Voice, you may have missed a familiar face in Amy Whitcomb. The powerhouse vocalist appeared on two seasons of The Sing Off and enjoyed a lot of success with her second group, the all-female Delilah. After making it past the battle round, Amy was eliminated on Monday night's episode of The Voice and chatted with us today in an exclusive interview about her third run on reality.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What's been going on with you since we last saw you on The Sing Off and this season of The Voice?
A. Amy: Delilah and I, we definitely did a lot of gigs and we toured internationally. It kept me in the performance scene but besides that, I've been really working on solo stuff, and have been figuring out my plan for branching out.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What made you choose The Voice as a way to elevate your career?
A. Amy: The Voice is a positive atmosphere. They try to put every artist in the best light possible. I knew I did not need a tv show that was based upon cruelty and poking fun at artists. I wanted to go with a positive show. I'm pretty used to the reality tv thing. I went ahead and took a chance and auditioned to try to get a catapult for my solo career.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: We didn't seen much of you this season, only in brief montages, and I read that it understandably frustrated you. Do you feel like it's because maybe your story wasn't as compelling as others?
A. Amy: I do think that was the basis of it. I think my story is interesting, but it's not tugging at the heartstrings. I'm definitely just a little more "this is a girl who loves to sing who is going after her dream". It's funny because I'm dramatic on stage but in my personal life, I try to keep it drama free.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Which was more stressful for you, the battle round or the knockout round?
A. Amy: Definitely the knockout round! We really did not know until we were on stage and Adam said who the pairings were who we were going to sing against. That fear of the unknown definitely gets to you.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Did it surprise you that Caroline was chosen over you?
A. Amy: You know, I knew I had a decent shot with that song and with that performance but going into it, you can always tell who the favorites are. Not necessarily the coaches' favorites, but America's favorites. Caroline is such a sweetheart and adored, as she should be. I was like, "I'm not so sure about this." Sometimes, it has more to do with just the performance at hand.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Do you have plans to be part of a band or do you want to pursue a solo career?
A. Amy: Definitely going that solo route. When I first auditioned, getting up there for my blind audition, as a solo artist, was a lot different than being on stage with a group. I'm usually singing a lead with Delilah, but it is different. There's so much more pressure, there's not as much support, and a different kind of energy that you have to conjure up yourself. Over the course of this experience, I've gained so much more experience.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What did the girls in Delilah think of your run on The Voice?
A. Amy: They were cute! They were texting me Monday night, but they didn't say much. I don't know if they could tell if I was upset or not. They were supportive, saying I was perfect and awesome. I'm sure they would've loved to see me go further but they understand more than anyone how reality tv can be.

The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC.
