Bates Battaglia and Anthony Battaglia of The Amazing Race 21

After a non-elimination leg last week, teams continue on in Botswana for the seventh leg of The Amazing Race. Bates and Anthony, who finished first, lead the pack and head for Boro Village to get their next clue. It's not exactly easy to find, but at least the drive there is beautiful. Caroline and Jen get pulled over for speeding and try to sweet talk their way out of it but that gets them a whole lotta nowhere. They'll have to pay 820 pula, or roughly $100, at the police station before continuing on.

At the village, Bates and Anthony encounter a Fast Forward and decide to go for it. It seems like a great idea until they find out they have to water ski for a mile... with CROCODILES. They finish it on the first try, which is extra impressive since Bates kept saying he was terrible at water skiing. On to the pit stop at the Royal Tree Lodge they go!

The other teams face a Road Block where one team member must deliver goats via canoe to locals. While animals are often tough to deal with on the race, this canoe proves to be ten times more challenging for just about everyone. Pam and Winnie finish first, heading to Royal Tree Lodge Game Preserve to get another clue, with Chuck and Wynona close behind. Meanwhile, Joey and Meghan get lost at just about every turn and have yet to start the Road Block, while Max and Katie get a speeding ticket and head to the police station. To make matters worse, on their way out, they back into a pole and need to back in to see the police and they still have to do a Speed Bump! These two are doomed...

Next up for the teams is a Detour with the choices being Brains or Braun. In Brains, teams go on a horseback safari and look at animal cutouts, then must remember what they saw in the correct order. In Braun, teams must load wood onto a sleigh and get donkeys to pull it to a campsite. Donkeys are not the most cooperative animal, so it seems the safari is the better option if you have a good memory. Pam and Winnie abandon Braun to go for Brains, while Caroline and Jen and Mona and Beth practically drag their donkeys down the road.  Turns out the donkeys, while difficult at times, is a much faster task!  When Pam and Winnie get their tiles wrong, they're forced to go back and start the safari again.  When they get it wrong a second time, they head back to Braun.  Looks like Max and Katie may have the opening they so desperately needed to stay alive.

Teams finish in the following order:

1. Bates and Anthony (win $7500 each)

2. Mona and Beth

3. Caroline and Jen

4. Chuck and Wynona

5. Joey and Meghan

6. Max and Katie

7. Pam and Winnie

How unfortunate to see Pam and Winnie eliminated, just as they were hitting their stride in the race.  It just goes to show how changing Detour tasks is always a very risky move.  Lesson learned: Don't let the panic get the best of you.
