The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 5

by Jessica Blackwell

After Kenya flat out disrespected Phaedra at the Shoedazzle event, I expected for there to be a fight or something, but everyone just continued as though nothing happened. Very strange, very strange...anyway here's what went on in Atlanta this week.

"Porsha is definitely the queen of her castle, but make no mistake, Kordell is the King and the King rules" - Cynthia

Porsha began planning Kordell's 40th birthday party, which had a Harlem Nights theme. To start, she tried on several dresses in front of her mom and sister, who helped her pick the perfect one for her man. Porsha commented that Kordell is very particular about what she wears because she's his barbie doll and he loves to dress her up. umm.. ok. Porsha enlisted a party planner to help her, so they went with her sister in law to view the venue. She liked the venue, but her one year old niece Jaiden was acting up and ruining the vibe.

In addition to planning her husband's party, Porsha was helping Cynthia with her pageant. Porsha was supposed to host a meeting with Cynthia and the Bailey Agency at home, but strangely she couldn't because Kordell was out of town. I'm beginning to think this man is a bit controlling with his young wife. Porsha got offended because Cynthia's staff tried to lay some simple ground rules down, and then Cynthia was pissed because Porsha had to take a phone call from her maid during the meeting. Later, when venting to Kordell about it, he would barely let her speak and kept repeating that she needed to "check" Cynthia.

Following Kordell's orders, Porsha sat down with Cynthia to talk about what was going on. Despite her plans to "check" Cynthia, Cynthia instead laid the smack down on her and told her that she didn't want her involved in the pageant anymore. Cynthia felt like Porsha was dropping the ball with the short list of items she asked her to do. They ended the conversation amicably, but I think it put a damper on their friendship.

Since she was basically fired from the pageant, Porsha was free to devote all her time to planning the party, and it came out fabulous! It was complete with casino games, lots of booze, and all his closest friends. Cynthia and Peter attended despite the wall of ice between her and Porsha. Walter, Kenya's ex, also got an invitation, which was odd because Kenya was not in attendance. He may be out of Kenya's life, but he certainly isn't going anywhere because both Peter and Kordell gave him standing invitations to anything social they are involved in.

Probably because he's king of the castle, Kordell felt it was his place to bring up the conflict between his wife and Cynthia. He commented that he was happy the whole thing was resolved, but I don't think it is. Cynthia felt that he was coming off as controlling and I agree.

Kandi, still settling in her new home, is loving having a family to cook for and take care of. While she was moving and enjoying home life, she was letting her music career sit on the back burner. She was feeling ready to get back into the game, so she met with her manager who wanted to make sure that she wasn't planning on having any babies with Todd. Kandi decided to switch her style up and do a gospel EP and she enlisted Marvin Sapp, gospel superstar, to join her on the record.

During her annual mammogram, Kenya's doctor found two lumps in her breasts so she had to go in for a biopsy. Although I think she's 10 shades of crazy, I really felt for her when she was laying on that table, clearly in pain. To get the results of her biopsy, her aunt came along for support. All of the masses were benign, but the doctor wants to follow up with her to keep an eye on them. Kenya feels blessed, and wants to stop focusing on the small things that have been stressing her out, like worrying about marriage and snarky females. Let's see if she maintains her new lease on life.

Next week, Porsha babysits her niece, Kenya gets involved in the pageant, and Kandi works with Marvin Sapp. Stay tuned!
