"Permanent Residents"

1890 House - Cortland, New York

Chester F. Wickwire built the white brick castle looking house back in the 1890's and now it's referred to as "The 1890 House" museum.   All the members of the family died in the house and their funerals were held in the house, a common practice before the rise of funeral homes.  The people who run the museum, as well as visitors, have encountered shadow figures, knocking, load footsteps coming from empty rooms, apparitions of both a male and female, and disembodies voices.  One very audible voice told one of the workers to "Get Out Of Here!"  People have been touched and items are said to be thrown from shelves.  At times the noise of a game of pool comes from the billiard room that is completely empty, with the pool balls placed on the shelves.  A picture taken by one of the workers seems to have caught a ghostly apparition and TAPS could not debunk the photo at the time of the investigation.  The caretakers are convinced the Wickwire family has never left its' home and TAPS was there to find out if that is true.

TAPS co-founder Jason Hawes and Steve Gonsalves were the first to enter the house and they headed straight to the attic.  As they called out for the Wickwires, their devices started going off as if something was sharing the space with them.  They moved to the basement where a lot of loud knocking has been reported.  They asked that if anybody was there with them to set off one of their energy detecting devices on the count of three.  At the count of three, you guessed it, their device alarms went off.

Britt Griffith and K.J. McCormick started their investigation in the "haunted billiard room."  They were able to show that the billiard balls were not affected by the traffic from the street, including some big trucks that came by.  It was long before they started their EVP session that their devices started to register readings, stating that the energy level in the room had been raised.  K.J. believed something had rattled the pool sticks on the wall, and this was at the time their devices were reacting to something.  They headed to the basement to start another EVP session, calling out for Chester Wickwire.  The temperature began to drop, their motion and energy detecting devices started to go off, and a shuffling sound was coming from somewhere as they stood still.

TAPS couldn't offer any more info to the museum caretakers on whether or not it was Chester Wickwire or his family causing the paranormal activity but they did believe there was some type of presence in the house.

Ashmore Estates, Coles County, Illinois

Called "One of the most haunted properties in Coles County," the abandoned former "poor farm" is in the process of being rehabbed by its new owners and they have a lot of work to do.  The inside of the building is covered in graffiti, pipes are rusted out, and paint is peeling from every surface where it was put on.  Windows are cracked if not missing and the grounds are in need of a good gardener.  Built in 1857, it housed the poor and elderly and as many as 30-40 people lived in the house at one time.  Over 200 people are said to have died in the house and it's not farfetched to believe that they may not know that they have passed on.  Sounds of furniture moving on floors above are heard by those working downstairs and apparitions and shadow figures are regularly seen.  Of course strange noises have also been reported, like footsteps coming from areas where no visible person is at, doors slamming, and disembodies voices.

The team had a very interesting night at the house.  Their equipment didn't seem to be registering any kind of activity and they believe they might have been able to debunk some of the paranormal reports.  In most investigations, the viewer is constantly witnessing alarm sounds from their equipment and multiple personal experiences.  Adam Berry did feel that he was touched in the back of his shoulder but that's about it.  TAPS believed the haunting of this house was more a local legend then reality, but it's not always easy to get the ghosts to come out on queue.
