Casanova and Joanna Coles on Project Runway All Stars Season 2

by Todd Betzold

Tonight on Project Runway All Stars we get the challenge that all the designers hate, but all the judges and viewers love. It is time for the unconventional challenge, as the designers take on Christmas decorations and materials in designing looks for the runway! This should be real interesting and we have Kylie Minogue and La La Anthony to help with the judging tonight.

The designers head out to meet Carolyn Murphy to find out about their next challenge. She is joined by Fawaz Gruosi, a jeweler to the stars. The winning designer will win a watch from Fawaz. The challenge, of course, is the unconventional challenge. They must make their garments out of everything in the Christmas store with a $350 budget and 30 minutes to shop. Their look must look like it was not made from Christmas supplies.

Joshua said he is looking for items that can be torn about and not known that it was once a train. Laura Kathleen is going with everything silver. Emilio is going as far away from Christmas colors as possible. Casanova is grabbing everything red and gold and going to make a live piñata.

The designers head back to the work to sketch and work on their designs. Ivy is going to work on a mini. Her and Casanova are working together as one and Uli wonders what the other will do when one leaves. Joshua has purchased $350 worth of material, but he has no real fabric. Uli is going to make a whole dress full of embellishments because Diane von Furstenberg told her to. Emilio is struggling and thinks unconventional challenges are the worst!

Joanna comes in for her critiques. She tells Joshua that he heart is beating for him because of his lack of fabric. She tells Casanova that she does not want to wear that dress. She tells Emilio that she would not know that this stuff came from a Christmas store, but he can't dress someone in ribbon and hope it does all the work. Joanna tells Anthony Ryan that his look shrieks of winter and it is smart he chose all in the same color palette. She tells Uli the dress looks a lot like her ‘70s dress. Anthony Ryan and Uli have a very similar looking dress. Joanna tells Laura Kathleen that she thinks the girls are ahead in this challenge. She tells Ivy she likes the idea she is going for.

Casanova has tried two dresses and neither are working for him, so with three hours to go in the day he starts working on his third dress. The models come in for their fitting. Ivy said they are like their little elves because they all need help with stuff, so they put the models to work. The night is ending and Casanova has nothing together and he has fabric and materials all over the floor and he has no clue what is going to happen the next day.

The designers are back at the hotel and Casanova doesn't know what to do and Joshua tells him to go around and start seeing what people aren't using, Emilio tells him he needs to put something unconventional on his look.

The next day arrives and everyone has so much to work, so they are all bringing out the hot glue guns to finish their looks in two hours. Casanova goes around and he is making a recycled dress and using everything people aren't using. The models come in and it is time for hair and makeup and fitting in their looks. Anthony Ryan said that Ivy's look is old, but she feels it could be one of the best this week. Uli said that Joshua's bottom part of his look is a train wreck. Emilio is using all the glue guns and nothing is working for him for his dress. Casanova finishes his look, but he is worried it doesn't look unconventional at all.

Time for the runway show, as Carolyn joins the designers on the runway. The judges this week are Carolyn, Georgina Chapman, Isaac Mizrahi and guest judges this week are La La Anthony and Kylie Minogue. The looks I liked tonight: Anthony Ryan (very well done and very wintery), Uli (very well done and similar to Anthony Ryan) and Laura Kathleen (all three of them have a dress that looks very similar). The looks I did not like tonight: Ivy (boring and drab), Joshua (not much to the outfit and too weird for me), Emilio (I don't even know what he did to this dress) and Casanova (good dress, but nothing to make it unconventional).

Carolyn tells Emilio that he is safe and the rest have the highest and lowest scores this week. For Anthony Ryan, Isaac said he loves the color of the dress and it looks very expensive to him. La La said she was blown away from it on the runway. Carolyn said he applauds him on the length. For Laura Kathleen, Kylie said she was very excited about the pockets. Carolyn said she loves the shape in the back and it makes it look fresh. Isaac said it makes her look fat. For Casanova, Georgina said she likes it so much more after hearing his story. Isaac said he needs to consider the age of his clients.

For Joshua, Isaac said the top half is so divine and then come the shorts. Kylie is crazy about the top, but nothing down below. For Ivy, Georgina said she likes the idea behind it, but there are a few proportions off on it. Carolyn said it is a very sweet dress, but it doesn't have the wow factor for her. For Uli, Isaac said the way she mixes these things together it is like magic. Kylie said it is absolutely stunning. Georgina said the way she mixed the silver and gold is very good.

The judges discuss the looks and I think it will be Anthony Ryan for the win and Ivy will be going home. The designers come back to the runway and Laura Kathleen is safe, so no watch for her and she wanted that thing. It is now between Uli and Anthony Ryan. The winner this week is Uli. Now Anthony Ryan and Joshua are safe, so it is down to Casanova and Ivy. So, we are down to the two that work together constantly and one of them will be leaving! Ivy is in, so Casanova will be heading home! My picks were wrong!
