Porsha Williams Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 5

by Jessica Blackwell

Porsha Stewart joined the cast of Real Housewives of Atlanta this season and quickly jumped right into the mix. She's already bumped heads with Kenya, another newbie, and fans definitely can't wait to see how her first season plays out.  Today she talked with Reality Wanted in an exclusive interview about why she joined the show, her family legacy, and having it all.

Q. Jessica,RealityWanted: You're new to the show this season, and I was excited to see you as an addition because of your values, charity work, and positive vibe.  Did you watch the show before you thought about coming on board?

A. Porsha: I did, I was a fan of the Atlanta Housewives and of Beverly Hills, that's my Sunday and Monday nights!

Q. Jessica, RealityWanted: What prompted you to want to go on the show?

A. Porsha: Well, Atlanta is pretty small, I was doing various charity events and I happened to invite some of the ladies that were on the show.  Bravo invited me to join the show, so I talked it over with my husband and the rest is history.

Q. Jessica, RealityWanted: I thought being on the show would be a good way to get your charity work out there.

A. Porsha: It is! As a newlywed, I had that period where I was just a housewife, and then I decided to be more active in charity work and be more of an influence in that way and I was glad to take America along on the ride with me.

Q. Jessica, RealityWanted: Your family legacy is amazing, with your grandfather being a major player in the Civil Rights Movement, how did it feel to grow up with such history all around you?

A. Porsha: My childhood was very normal, even though I had such a powerful grandfather and a powerful family. The majority of my family are entrepreneurs and  among the movers and shakers of Atlanta. I went to a march with my grandfather when I was just 6 years old, and there was so much racism, with people throwing rocks, and things like that. After the march, I talked with my grandfather and family, and he told me that we were trying to change the world and people's opinions.  He would always tell me stories about everything, and as I got older I really admired him so it became really important to me to continue that legacy.

Q. Jessica, RealityWanted: I admire you for all the work you do with your grandfather's charity, the Hosea Williams foundation. Is it hard to juggle trying to add to your family, being a stepmom and your charity work?

A. Porsha: There are some difficulties on the way to having it all, but I've had an encouraging group of women in my family that put the strength in me to be able to handle it all. I'm focused on the outcome of it all, and trying to be an example to women who to want to have it all. I wanted to share my struggles, as you saw on the show, I had a miscarriage from uterine fibroids and I wanted to share that journey with other women.

Q. Jessica, RealityWanted: It was great to see the doctor give you and your husband the green light to go ahead and start adding to your family on the last episode. Do you still want twins?

A.Porsha: Well my doctor did say slow down, but I really want twins. After the procedure I had, they recommend that you only have three births and I want four children! So I need to fit them all in! We have such a wonderful home, and my stepson will be a great big brother.  I'm from the South, and down here we say if you have the rooms, fill em up!

Q. Jessica, RealityWanted: We're still early in the season, but we've already seen some drama stirring between you and Kenya. How did you feel when she stormed out of your charity event, especially since it was only your second on screen interaction with her?

A. Porsha: I was confused. I did not know if it was because I had mistakenly called her Miss USA. I was confused because I had apologized and I thought it was over and done. I didn't know she was storming out to invite a man to an all women's event. In the end, I had to stand up for what I thought was right and at that point, the drama and she and her guests were no longer welcome. I've looked up to her since I was yay high, and I always viewed her as part of the upper echelon of black women. I was disappointed.

Q.Jessica, RealityWanted: Now that we've discussed the drama on the show, what positive relationships have you gained since you joined the cast? I like to think that when you spend all that time filming with other people, you get some good friendships out of it besides the drama.

A. Porsha: I'm always an optimist and I look for the good. It was great having the chance to meet other strong women because I do view some of the women on the show as strong women that I can look up to.
