Final 8 on Survivor: Philippines

by Gina Scarpa

Now that we've all had our turkey, spent time with family, and did a little Black Friday shopping, it's time to talk Survivor!

Lisa Whelchel has never been good at breaking up with people but Survivor: Philippines taught her how to become an expert at it. It may have taken her weeks, but she FINALLY told Abi-Maria she no longer wanted to work with her and was sticking with the alliance of Skupin, Penner, Malcolm, Denise, and Carter. The chances of an alliance of three making it to the end are slim to none so she's better off with the six, and then hope for the best once they have to turn on each other.

At the reward challenge, players were split into two teams and with an even number of people, that means Abi-Maria has to play. No courtside seat for her today! Players on opposite teams face off against each other running around a course and flipping over their disc to face up, while turning the other down. The first person to have all three of their discs facing up wins. Some people don't understand the rules, others just have a brain freeze, and there are a few easy wins. The team with the younger players (Malcolm, Pete, Abi, and Carter) end up winning a trip to a spa for the day, but agree they're not going to talk game. Which is dumb.

When the winning team returns to camp, Abi can't help but brag to everyone about how muchs she felt like a princess, how delicious the food was, and how clean her hair felt. She then went on strike, refusing to cook for anyone anymore because she felt like she was next to go, but expected others to still prepare meals for her. Obviously, that didn't go over well but it's not like she's losing popularity points. She hasn't had since... well, perhaps ever.

Right before the immunity challenge, Lisa and Skupin approach Penner with a final four deal but he turns it down, so they team up with Malcolm and Denise instead. I hope everyone with their hands in the middle is aware that if Malcolm gets to the end, he'll win by a landslide. In the challenge, players have to make it through elimination rounds by untangling a buoy through a rope course. Skupin, Denise, and Carter made it to the end and Carter pulled from behind in the very last seconds to win an immunity necklace that doesn't matter, because nobody is even thinking of voting him out.

As much as everyone would love to send Abi to the jury, she has an idol so Dangrayne tribe targets Pete instead. At tribal council, Abi finds out just how much the other players don't like her, which brings her to tears. It's hard to tell if she's actually shocked by the news, or if she's trying to gain some sympathy. The votes went just as you'd expect, and it will be interesting to see what Abi does next, now that she's literally alone in the game. That six is going to have to turn on each other at some point. Could she become valuable at the next tribal?
