Immunity Challenge on Survivor: Philippines

by Gina Scarpa

Following last week's shocking tribal council, in which everyone and their mother openly presented their hidden immunity idols and Jeff Kent was blindsided, Jonathan openly admits back at camp that he voted for Abi-Maria. What does he care? He's probably going next anyway! Lisa regrets making her big move (because it didn't work) but Malcolm shows her a lot of compassion but instead of making her feel better, it almost has the opposite effect. Jonathan comforts her, understanding her "Am I good enough?" conversation. Their connection seems to run pretty deep and Lisa is buying it hook, line, and sinker. I'm fairly certain Jonathan is sincere in his efforts, but it doesn't hurt that she's a very needed vote in the upcoming tribal council.

In the reward challenge, players are divided into two teams and must run through an obstacle course, collect bags buried in mud, then throw the balls into a basket. The yellow team is comprised of Michael, Lisa, Pete, and Artis while Jonathan, Carter, Denise, and Malcolm make up the red team. Abi-Maria is not picked and it's amazing how entitled she feels and what a bad attitude she has, considering how little she has to do in order to stay around.

Jonathan comes up with an awesome strategy, to dig up all of the bags so that when each team member goes after him, they don't even have to search. That gives them a huge advantage and before you know it, they're tossing balls into the basket while the yellow team is still scrambling for their last bag. That Jonathan - he is a smart one! The red team wins, and is sent to a local village where they bring school supplies and toys, and enjoy a meal with them too.

At camp, Pete tries hard to reel Lisa and Skupin back in, but Abi-Maria can't keep her mouth shut. She goes on about wanting Jonathan out (fine, fair enough) then talks down to Lisa, calling her naive. Now, while that may have some truth to it, Abi is the last person who should be telling people about themselves. She may be the least self-aware player in the history of the game and yet, it makes her more and more enticing to take to the end. There's no way she'll even get a single vote from a jury member for the million.

In order to win immunity this week, players must balance a paddle, roll a ball down it, and have six balls balanced on it at one time.

Skupin and Pete take an early lead, while everyone has absolutely nothing going on. When it mattered most, Pete lost focus and balance, while Skupin won his first individual immunity challenge ever. With each passing week, I start to root for Skupin more. He played the game when there were no hidden immunity idol, and never made it as far as the merge or an individual immunity challenge. I'm quite enjoying his comeback this season!

While I may be a fan of Skupin's, Abi certainly is not and back at camp, "accidentally" hits him with a coconut while he's talking about his victory. It could've been an innocent mistake but considering how much she can't stand him, it seems fairly fishy. Denise suggests blindsiding Artis because she knows Abi won't use the idol on him, so Jonathan tries to swing Lisa over to their side. Since she and Michael go together, it's important that they have both, not one. At tribal, Abi pouts the entire time and then goes after Lisa in front of everyone, saying she doesn't trust her. What's absolutely shocking is that Lisa STILL votes with Tandang in the end but thank god for Skupin. In a 5-4 vote, Artis is sent to the jury but where does that leave Lisa and Michael? Can he convince her to go with the good guys next week once and for all? Fingers crossed!
