Survivor: Philippines

It seems that Russell Swan wasn't the only returning player on Survivor: Philippines that needed to be worried about the new players this season. Though Michael was able to quickly form bonds with his Tandang tribe, Jonathan was able to move the target off of his back early on with Kalabaw and form a solid alliance. Now, the two find themselves as the top targets should their tribe lose the next immunity challenge.

The reward challenge seemed simple enough. Three players from each tribe would face off and tribe to push a ball across a muddy playing field into a goal. The first tribe to score three points would win a picnic in a dry hut nonetheless. It didn't take long though to realize that this challenge was going to be a lot tougher than the anticipated. The six players in the first round found themselves in a one hour gridlock where they held on to each other and nobody moved. Considering how much energy this battle was taking and considering there were two more rounds, it was time to talk a deal.

Michael decided that Tandang could forfeit if Kalabaw would give them the rest of their rice. Both tribes were running dangerously low on the only food product at their camps, so Michael felt it would be smart to bribe them with a short term reward that could have long term effects. Even though several members of Tandang didn't like the plan, they all agreed to it (sort of) and the tribes shook hands and parted ways without an ending to the challenge.

Not only was delicious and much needed food, such as sandwiches and brownies, waiting for Kalabaw once they reached the hut, but there were letters from home too. You would think this would sustain the tribe at LEAST for the next few days, right? Nope, by mid-afternoon, Carter was starving and lying around like that feast never happened. Jonathan promised to feed everybody fish, but was able to catch things about the size of the pet goldfish I had growing up. Suddenly, it doesn't seem like this was a very smart move. No worries Kalabaw, it wasn't a smart move on Tandang's part either. Sure they were running out of rice but Kalabaw didn't have much more so they gave up a challenge to earn about a day and a half worth of rice. Worst. Decisions. Ever.

For the immunity challenge, three players stand out in a playing field with nets while two players from opposing tribes launch balls through the air. The first tribe to catch five, regardless of tibe color, wins. Jonathan kicks things off with a point for Kalabaw, with Jeff stepping it up to give their tribe a nice lead. You'd hope Jeff would excel standing in a field catching balls! Yet, the unstoppable Malcolm is able to not only lead a comeback for Tandang, but overtake Kalabaw for the win. Denise still remains without a legit win, while Abi-Marie reaps the benefits of her tribe's success, despite only competing in two challenges so far this season. How is this fair?

Katie is refusing to go down without a fight so she tries to convince Jeff and Carter to go with a plan they were already considering - blindside Jonathan and take the idol out of play. While Jeff seems more on board with Katie's plan, Carter is actually strategizing for once. And making sense! It is way smarter to go into the merge with the returning players. They're going to have huge targets on them, never mind the almighty Malcolm. While everyone guns for them, Jeff and Carter can slip quietly by.

At tribal council, Jeff Kent has the nerve to tell Jeff Probst that the game of Survivor sucks. He tries to justify it by saying that it's because you have to blindside people to get further, but I just don't see his passion for the game here. After everyone agrees that someone is about the blindsided, Jonathan clearly knows it's not him, doesn't play the idol, and Miss Delaware is sent packing.
