Bryan Keith from The Voice Season 3

by Gina Scarpa

Musician and singer Bryan Keith was hoping to make a name for himself, as the son of a successful and famous father. His dad, a member of the Spanish Harlem Orchestra, was wish the same for his son and both saw their dreams realized the minute Bryan stepped onto the stage for the blind auditions of The Voice this season. All four coaches turned around for him, but Adam Levine ultimately snatched him up. Paired up against Collin McLoughlin, Bryan advanced to the next round, while Collin was stolen by Blake Shelton. We talked to Bryan today about his journey thus far on The Voice and find out what kind of music he most likes to perform as well as what he wants to say to his fans.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What made you choose The Voice as the reality show you wanted to audition for?
A. Bryan: Besides the fact that I felt like it was time to audition for one of these things... I never really wanted to audition for Idol or anything like that. The concept of The Voice is so different and cool to me. It's a very genuine thing. Instead of being judges, they're coaches. For the first time, it was like, "Wow, we get to work with these superstars and they're gonna be helping us or molding us." Everything is cool about it. They treat us well. I decided to do it because I wanted to see how far I could get.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What was your goal going into the blind audition? Were you hoping for all four chairs to turn around or, in your mind, would one have been enough?
A. Bryan: I was hoping that somebody would turn around for me. I went out there, already wanting Adam as my coach. As they prepare you for the blinds, they tell you not to think like that because anything can happen. You don't wanna get your hopes up or think about it too much. What ended up happening was beyond my wildest dreams. I got all four of them and it's still amazing to me. It's something that gives me butterflies.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Right! So all four coaches turn around and now what's going through your head? Did you consider going with anyone else?
A. Bryan: Once I saw that all four turned, and I had Adam and could choose him, I still really took into consideration everything that the other coaches had to say. For a moment... it was crazy. Everyone had something to say. Cee-Lo almost grabbed me, I almost went with Christina, but then I started to really think. I got all four, and I have Adam here which is who I wanted originally. I just went with my gut.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What was it about Adam that made you want to work with him and has he lived up to your expectation thus far?
A. Bryan: Oh yeah! When you really think about something enough, it can actually happen exactly the way you picture it happening. That's what's been going on. I chose Adam because of the whole him being a front man for a band. I went through that kind of thing. I went through that with different bands. We relate in that aspect. I don't know, it's just something that clicks, with him and I. It's everything I expected. His advice to me has been to stay true to who I am. He's said to me, "Anything that comes your way song wise, make it yours." It's really great, he says things you wanna hear, and he's just very genuine. He still has that band attitude which is really cool.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What was the battle round like for you? How were you feeling going in?
A. Bryan: I mean, it is weird. You're facing your friend. They call it a team but at the same time, you're facing someone for elimination on your team so it's strange. I'm glad Colin got stolen, by the way, because he's a great artist. It makes you realize how hungry you are for this and that's the moment when you say to yourself, "It's either him or me," and you have to just go for it. At the same time, you have to work together to put on a great performance.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Adam has been known to get his singers to make some gutsy choices, and we saw that last season with Tony Lucca. Are you willing to do something like that? What kind of performances do you want to give?
A. Bryan: Yeah, I mean, anything they throw at me, I'm going to do my best to stay original and stay interesting. But I connect with people most on an emotional level. It's just something. I've just got this thing and it never lets me down. If I'm singing a very emotional song, I relate. I get into the story and I want people to feel that back. Hopefully, that's what will continue to happen as I move forward. I'm willing to do something completely out of the box and comfort zone.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What does your family think about your success on the show thus far?
A. Bryan: Oh man, they're so proud of me. They're so proud of me! My mom is constantly looking up things online, interviews and reviews. My dad is so happy, too.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Anything you'd like to say to your fans?
A. Bryan: Oh yeah! I wanna thank everyone for supporting me and for relating to me and connecting to me. Before I was on the show, I would sit at home and listen to certain bands and certain things. I wondered if they ever felt what I was feeling. I want that to happen for me, even beyond the show. I wanna keep that momentum going.
