Survivor: Philippines

by Gina Scarpa

Following last week's tribal council on Survivor: Philippines, Angie is upset that Roxy called her out - even though she was the one that went home. Angie says that she and Malcolm are not a couple but their pretzel legs in their little hut every night suggest otherwise. Russell knows that Denise could very easily side with the prom king and queen, making him the next to go. That means that Angie or Malcolm need to be the one to have their torch snuffed if Matsing loses for a third time in a row. And if they DO lose a third time in a row, this is starting to feel like the poor Ulong tribe during Survivor: Palau. (But on a side note, Stephenie LaGrossa was awesome that season!)

The Matsing tribe isn't the only group conspiring to get someone out. RC and Abi-Maria's rift continues to grow and it's hard to believe their alliance with Pete and Michael. When Abi-Maria approaches Pete about the hidden immunity idol clue, he realizes that his foursome isn't as trustworthy as maybe he originally anticipated. I may be wrong here, but I think Pete may be able to slip under the radar and break out as a stronger player down the road if he plays his cards right. He approaches Lisa and tells her to vote however he tells her to and he'll keep her safe. What other choice does she have? Just nod your head!

Over at Kalabaw, the tribe FINALLY notices the top of the rice container is gone and that Jonathan must have the idol. They're hoping to secretly devise a plan to oust him while has the idol, but come on. We have to hope that this three time player, this superfan of the game, would not be so stupid... right???

I'm immediately excited at the sight of the immunity/reward challenge because I LOVE a good water challenge. The winning tribe will get a large fishing kit, second place gets a small kit, and third goes to tribal. Teams must dive into the ocean and retrieve puzzle wheels that will spell the word "treasure". Surprisingly, Denise is the strongest person on her team for Matsing while both Angie and Russell seem to be ready to collapse in exhaustion. Seriously, I was expecting more from Russell. RC retrieves pieces over and over again for her Matsing tribe, while Skupin manages to smash a diving mask in his face and is covered in blood. Kalabaw goes at a steady but strong pace, ultimately taking first place. Tandang takes second at Matsing, who manages even to lose their raft back at camp, comes in last for the third challenge in a row.

Before we get to Matsing's tribal council, let's just head to Kalabaw. With their tribe being safe and Jonathan having the idol, a truce is forged between him and Jeff. Jeff offers a (very creepy) four finger handshake, which he lets the viewers know means he's not shaking his hand like a man.

Okay, on to tribal... Angie tries to say that she's strong and she can handle things but Russell smacks her down, saying she can't hold a candle to him and anyone who thinks otherwise is crazy. Now, if he could only apply that fight to physical challenges. The tribe decides that Angie must be sent on her way, leaving Malcolm is cuddlebuddy-less.
