The Voice Season 3

by Todd Betzold

We are about halfway there with the Blind Auditions on The Voice Season 3, as Team Christina and Team Adam both have nine acts and Team Blake and Team Cee Lo both have seven acts. With each team consisting of 16 acts, let's see who else the coaches pick up tonight!

The first singer of the night is Trevanne Howell, who is 33 years old from Bronx, NY. She is a single mother of two kids and she is here to show her children if you put your mind to it, you can do anything. She is taking on a Whitney Houston song, which is a big feat to undertake. She is a beautiful woman and has a good voice, but it is Whitney and it is hard to not be compared when singing her. She gave me some chills during that and Christina came close, but no coaches turned around. Christina said it was courageous to take on that song, but it felt shaky at moments. Cee Lo said she had a nice voice, but she came at the song too hard.

The next singer is Collin McLoughlin, who is 24 years old from Bedford, NY. He was enrolled at NYU for his Masters Degree and wanted to work at a record label. He was the first one in his family in grad school, yet he was still working on his music on the side. He decided to drop out of NYU and moved home to his childhood bedroom to pursue his dream, even though his parents disagreed and were upset with him. He starts out good and Cee Lo and Blake turn around quickly for him. Adam joins a little later and is happy because this guy is cute and could win over some votes. Blake said he was the only one that was singing along and he was sold on him when he started singing. Cee Lo said very impressive and he really digs him. Adam said he is purist singers he has heard. Collin goes with Team Adam. His Mom admits she was wrong and he made the right choice to drop out of grad school.

Up next is Joselyn Rivera, who is 17 years old from Pembroke Pines, FL. She was born premature and was slow to developing. She wouldn't talk as a child and falling behind the other kids. They took her to a specialist and the doctor prescribed music to help her through it and it started to bring her out of her shell. She would lock herself in her room for four hours a day and sing karaoke. She has a decent voice, but it was nothing special to me. However, Christina and Blake thought it had something special and they turned around. Christina said she has it and would love to have her on her team. Blake said Christina has been known to be abusive to members on her team and there have been people who quit singing after they met her! Joselyn picks Team Christina.

Our next singer on The Voice is Benji, who is 24 years old from Orlando, FL. He is a former race car driver that ran out of money to pursue the racing career, so he started to pursue his singing career. He has a good voice and is a little different with his scream, so Adam and Cee Lo turned around for him. Adam said he has a scream that should be heard by the entire world and he had range and he could end up winning this thing. Christina said he has a little sound like Adam in there. Cee Lo said he is at a loss of words at the moment and he wants to be around people with soul. Benji goes with Team Adam.

We get some quick looks at Todd Kessler, Ben Taub and Emily Earle who all sang some classic songs which appealed to Cee Lo. They all will join Team Cee Lo and that increases his number tremendously.

Up next is Lorraine Ferro, who is 52 years old from NYC. She is here to prove you can get the coaches to turn the chair at any age. She is a singing coach, vocal coach and every other coach you can think of and is ready to take center stage. She has a huge personality and big laugh and kinda reminds me of Elaine from "Seinfeld." Anyone else? She has an alright voice, but it so sounds like she should be in a musical and not on a record label. None of the judges turn around, but she is still over-the-top happy about this all. The judges said it was inconsistent, but not terrible in any parts.

The last singer of the night is Mycle Wastman, who is 40 years old from Seattle, WA. He was raised by his grandparents, after his father passed away from cancer and mother from respiratory failure. And to bring on the tears, his grandfather he raised him passed away a week and a half ago! He did a lot of things before music, including the military, but nothing made him as happy as music did. He sings "Let's Stay Together" and starts out real strong and I really enjoy his voice. He has great range and a tone to his voice that is so good. He gets Adam, Cee Lo and Blake to turn around for him. Cee Lo said he has the whole spectrum and has the total package. Adam said he did an incredible job and he did expect him to be him when he turned around and wants him very badly to be on his team. Blake said he is the best vocalist they have heard today. They all fought for him, but Mycle chooses Team Cee Lo.

It was a night of no love for Blake Shelton, as he was shut out tonight even with pushing his button four times tonight! After another night, we have Team Cee Lo with eleven acts, Team Adam with eleven acts, Team Christina with ten acts and Team Blake with seven acts.

The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC.
