Project Runway Season 10

by Todd Betzold

I'll take you to the candy shop. I'll let you lick the lollipop. No, 50 Cent isn't here tonight, but the designers on Project Runway are headed to the candy shop, as they take on making designs out of candy from Dylan's Candy Bar, which Dylan Lauren is the founder and CEO. She also happens to be the daughter of fashion icon Ralph Lauren!

The next morning and Lantie is shocked she was in the bottom three last week, but she must move on and yup, Gunnar's voice still annoys me. Can he go home this week? For winning last week, Christopher has immunity this week and cannot go home. Heidi meets the designers on the runway and sends them out to meet Tim Gunn for their next challenge.

They meet Dylan Lauren and Tim to find out they will be using the products from her candy store to make their design this week. Yup folks, it's the unconventional challenge! And of course, Gunnar said he had a dream of making a dress with candy. I want to smack him! They have a $250 budget and 30 minutes to shop, but Dylan is giving them 50% off everything, so they have a $500 budget really. The designers head in and start shopping. They can use anything in the store, so it doesn't have to be just candy. Lantie is thinking of the foundation to hold the dress up, so she is getting more than just candy. The designers all finish up and head to the workroom.

Fabio has the idea of creating a Jackie O. look and crush up rock candy. Buffi is going to go with a circle dress, but wants it to look wearable. Tim comes in and tells the designers to push the boundaries and wow the judges. And the drama queens are already out. Why don't Christopher and Gunnar just sleep together and get rid of some of that tension between the two of them!

Alicia is going to do a one-shoulder overall and trying to do colors to represent the Earth. Buffi is using an umbrella as part of her design, so she brings out the hammer to break off the metal parts to it and everyone is annoyed by her loud pounding. Andrea is making an apron gone wild for a candy store worker. Kooan is making a sweater vest and making it out of Twizzler. He is weaving the Twizzler together because it isn't very long. It is not going as expected.

Tim comes back with eight hours left in the day to see how the designers are doing. Nathan is concerned about the weight of his design and Tim said it already weighs a ton. Tim said if the waistline is firm and secure, he will be fine. Christopher changed his mind from pants to a skirt and Tim told him to be ambitious. Tim is impressed by Raul and his design doesn't even look like candy, as he is with Melissa.

Elena is concerned that there is not enough color in her dress and Tim said she has to go with it because she has no other choice now. Tim said Sonjia has a sophistication with her look and you wouldn't expect it with jelly beans and gummy sharks and has potential for a wow moment. Tim is excited for Ven's design and loves it. Tim is crazy about the weaving that Buffi has done. He tells Gunnar that his design looks like macaroni. Dmitry wants to wait for his model to try on the corset before he puts the beads on it, but Tim tells him he has no time for that. Kooan is nuts and does some breathing thing to calm down with Tim. Kooan is nuts, so he will be here for a while folks!

Tim tells Lantie that she has a lot of work to do and he is concerned about the timing. For Andrea, Tim tells her he has no words to tell her how underwhelmed he. He tells her it looks thrown together and craft project. He said he is disappointed and concerned. The piece looks like crap and how can she make an apron and that's it?

After Tim talks with Andrea, she starts cutting up her apron to start over, but then she thinks that she didn't have to listen to him, but it is too late now. Elena is busy gluing the rest of her licorice on her design. Kooan's design looks like a costume, which is exactly the opposite of what they are supposed to be doing.

The models arrive and Dmitry tries it on his model and it fits and he is feeling confident. Gunnar asks his model how she looks so good in everything he makes for her. Well, this is week two...you haven't made much girl! Ven feels the winner is going to be him or Sonjia and her design looks polished. Andrea regrets cutting it up and is going to go back to her original idea and is ready to pack her bags and go home tomorrow.

Lantie decides to use an umbrella and will have very little candy on her design, which is going to hurt her. She was in bottom two last week and now she might be in danger of going home again. Everyone keeps burning themselves from the hot glue guns. Elena gets hot glue on her hand and drops some on her thigh and the medics come in. They put some cream on it and move on.

The next day arrives and the designers come back to the workroom to finish their look. Kooan gets to his "dress" and his cotton candy has disappeared, so he needs to fix his. Buffi does the same thing for her birds nest, so she must make a new one. Tim arrives and tells them they have two hours to prep their models.

Elena rips her dress while taking it off the mannequin and must do some more gluing while on the model. Andrea has gone from thinking she is going home to thinking she may win this one, but to be honest her look is ridiculous. Tim comes back and it is time to head to the runway.

I don't know what Heidi Klum is wearing tonight, but get it together! The judges tonight are Michael Kors, Nina Garcia and guest judge is Dylan Lauren. Let's get this party started! My favorites: Gunnar (I like the colors and the looks), Sonjia (love the colors and design), Melissa (it looks like freaking leather and it is licorice), Ven (it looks amazing for being made out of candy) and Dmitry (looks good, but does he have enough candy on it)? My least favorite: Nathan (it looks huge and too costumey) Andrea (it looks horrendous), Elena (it is plain and some of the Twizzlers fall off on the runway), Kooan (looks horrendous and candy falling off of it) and Lantie (I don't even think it had candy on it).

Heidi asks the following designers to step forward: Gunnar, Elena, Ven, Sonjia, Lantie and Buffi. The other designers are safe. Really? Kooan is just in the middle and so is Andrea?

Time to look at the highest and lowest scores tonight. For Buffi, Heidi said she over-accessorized too much. Michael said she is like Toddlers & Tiaras gone berserk. Nina said it is a pink explosion of messiness. For Sonjia, Heidi said she likes the shape and she created a really pretty dress out of candy. Dylan likes every angle of this dress and it's fun to look at. Michael said it is really well done. For Lantie, Michael said the same problems she had on the last challenge is the same she has tonight. He feels she is a designer. Dylan said she is disappointed it is not made out of candy. Nina said at least it is not atrocious. For Ven, Heidi said he has great taste and it looks like a stunning dress and so flattering to her body. Nina said it is refreshing and beautiful. Michael said he loves the asymmetry and kept it clean and chic. Dylan said he changed the candy and took it to an artistic level. For Elena, Heidi said it reminded her of her kids and it looks like a dress with noodles and it does not look pretty to her. Michael said she looks like Rigatoni Mad Max and it looks like she has no dimension to her body and she looks blocky. Dylan said it is not creative and she likes color. Nina said it has no spirit and no fun. For Gunnar, Heidi said she likes what he has done and she looks quite chic. Dylan said you accessorized everything and it is something we would use in our window. Michael said you thought about it from head to toe and you thought about her body when you made it.

The judges discuss and it is Candy Couture and they are going between Sonjia and Ven, which is exactly what Ven said it would be. He may be cocky and arrogant, but he is correct and he does seem to keep it to himself. They seem torn between the bottom three, but it looks like it might be leaning towards Elena. The designers come back and Heidi tells Ven that he impressed them again and he is the winner this week and has immunity next week. He seems humble in the victory and I like that. Sonjia, Gunnar and Elena are safe. That leaves us with Lantie and Buffi. Lantie is out, so Buffi is in. Are you shocked by this one?
