Bachelor Pad Season 3

by Gina Scarpa

Bachelor Pad is back and it looks to be the most dramatic and emotionally charged season we've seen yet. Yeah, I'm hyping it up Chris Harrison style. Let's meet our contestants competing for a quarter of a million dollars, shall we?

Ben's season of The Bachelor is by far the most represented with Lindzi Cox, Blakeley Jones, Jamie Otis, Jaclyn Swartz, and Rachel Trueheart. Sarah Newlon from Brad's first season on the show also joins Bachelor Pad, along with returning contestant Erica Rose, hailing all the way from Lorenzo's awful season. Superfans Brittany and Erica Taltos (who quickly become the most annoying people on the planet), Paige Vigil, and Dona Zitelli are also thrown into the mix.

From the most recent season of The Bachelorette with Emily, we have Chris, Kalon, and Tony. Wait, TONY!? He couldn't handle being away from his son last time. What's different this time? Oh, money. From Ashley's season, there's Nick along with Ryan from DeAnna's season. Jillian's season brings us Ed, Reid, and Bachelor Pad 2 winner Michael Stagliano who says this time, he's just here for love. Yeah, right. As for the fans, there's Chris (aka Swat) and David, though I have a hard time believing either are glued to their televisions on Monday nights. The footage of Swat watching The Bachelorette in his plaid pajamas while drinking wine by candlelight was hilarious though.

Here's the rundown on the drama that these contestants are bringing into the house. Erica Rose and Kalon dislike each other because she went to the tabloids about him. Ed apparently still harbors ill feelings towards Reid for showing up and proposing to Jillian at the finale, despite the fact that they are long broken up. Oh, and he cheated on her. Rachel and Jaclyn hate Blakeley for being Blakeley but slap smiles on the faces for the sake of the game. Finally, the vets are already on the defensive about the rookies, feeling they didn't earn their spot. "Like, you didn't get dumped on national television," justifies Rachel.

Ed kicks things off by getting insanely drunk, which is quite amusing to watch, especially when Chris Harrison is trying to explain how the competition works. Ed just yells out nonsensical things and takes off to jump into the pool. I've never had to see Chris have to reel someone in like he did but it was worth the wait.

Before the first competition, everyone has to pair up. Let the scrambling begin! We have Blakeley/Chris, Jaclyn/Ed, Sarah/Michael, Lindzi/Tony, Jamie/Ryan, Erica Rose/Nick, Rachel/Swat, Paige/Reid, Donna/Kalon, and Brittany and Erica/David. In the first challenge, players have to wedge themselves inside a heart and hang in the air until the drop, with the heart being tilted more and more towards the ground every few minutes. Erica and Nick drop first, and automatically receive a vote against them for elimination. Amazingly, David and Brittany win (only one twin can compete at a time) and not only are they going out on a date together, all three are safe from elimination.

Did I mention the really weird part about Brittany/Erica, where they are competing as one? They get one vote and if they win a competition, their partner takes both of them out. Creepy.

While David is out on his date with the twins at an amusement park, Chris gets busy back at the mansion with Jamie, which does not sit well with Blakeley at all. She barges into the bedroom, demanding to know what happens, then cries to the cameras afterwards. Dial it back, Blakeley. You've been in the house one day. He doesn't owe you anything yet and he definitely can hook up with who he wants to. Though, I'm not a fan of him in the preview arrogantly proclaiming that he trades them both in for someone else to share his bed with.

Upon returning, David announces to Erica Rose that she's going home and that all the newbies are in an alliance together, which may go down as the dumbest Bachelor Pad move in the history. That sends her crazy, calling him an ugly loser and running around to inform all the veterans of his plan. Reid has formed a quick connection with Paige and doesn't want to see her go so he launches a campaign in order to save her. Kalon is the swing vote but he's just telling everyone what they want to hear in order to keep the target off of himself.

At the rose ceremony, the lines in the sand have clearly been drawn. It's Paige and Swat who are headed home first. It's only a matter of time before the twins and David are next. They can't win everything. Will Donna be able to slip through the cracks and make it further than the rest of her fellow fans?

Bachelor Pad airs Mondays at 8/7c on ABC.
