The Bachelorette Season 8

by Gina Scarpa

It's time for one of the most telling weeks on The Bachelorette - hometown dates! After a stop in Charlotte to see Ricki, and some pondering over the remaining four men, Emily's first stop is Chicago to see Chris. She felt like he knew all the cool places to go in the city but clearly, she's impressed easily. No Chicago Water Tower or Wrigley Field. Nope, just a little walkaround, a quick bite, and then off to meet his parents.

It could be more clear that Emily lacks the chemistry with Chris that she has with the other guys. Let me rephrase. It could not be more be clear to EVERYONE but Chris. He professes her love to her after a nice meal with his parents and sisters, the younger of whom grilled Emily a little to make sure she was really falling for Chris. She does a good job of convincing the fam and moves on to St. George, Utah to see Jef.

This must be the point in the relationship where Emily realizes that Jef and his family have money. A lot of money. They own their own ranch with a ton of land and Jef takes Emily out in his dune buggy to do a little shootin'. She pretends like she's never held a gun before but surprise, surprise - she takes lessons and she's pretty good. Jef is lovin' every minute of it! His parents couldn't make it to meet Emily (they were at a charity event) but his large amount of brothers and sisters are on hand to intimidate her. Actually, the group warms up to her pretty quickly and afterwards, Jef reads her a love letter that just about makes her cry.

Next up is Scottsdale, Arizona where Emily meets up with Arie at the race track. Without much hesitation, she jumps in his car and allows him to speed along the track with her in tow. She says she wouldn't do that with anyone else, and I can't help but believe her. She definitely trusts Arie a lot, and clings to him too. His mom makes her a bit uncomfortable, especially when she speaks in Dutch about her to the rest of the family. Rude. They end up all getting along, I guess, and Arie says goodbye to Emily, confident that he'll be asking her to marry him.

The last hometown date takes place in Dallas, Texas with Sean. He seems so perfect... until he reveals that he still lives with his parents. His room is full of stuffed animals and stale food. Just kidding! Oh, that jokester! It doesn't seem Emily thought the pranks he and his family pulled (steamed armadillo, anyone?) were very funny. In fact, the date lacked that comfort that I thought the two of them had. Maybe all they have is physical chemistry. When she heads home, Sean chases her down the street, screaming her name, in search of one more kiss. Get a new act, buddy.

Right before the rose ceremony, Emily gets a little choked up, unsure of what she's going to do. Oh, come on. We all know what's coming. Arie gets the first rose, Jef the second, and the last one is handed to Sean. Chris is shocked... and pissed. He really doesn't know how to handle himself sometimes, does he? I guess this is what the guys meant about him being too young.

On to Curacao with the final three! I can really see her ending up with any one of them - how about you?
