Survivor: One World - Finale

by Gina Scarpa

With Tarzan out of the game on Survivor: One World, we're down to five women who will compete tonight to win the million dollar grand prize. If it's not Kim, I'll fall off the couch in shock. Christina has suddenly become quite the popular player on the island, what with people wanting to take her to the end. And why wouldn't they? She's done a whole lot of nothin' out there and won't get a single vote.

In the first immunity challenge of the evening, players race through a balance beam maze, across a giant rope net to retrieve puzzle pieces, create a puzzle that gives them three numbers, and solve a combination lock. Kim falls behind early on but Alicia gives some people an advantage when she unties the wrong bags of puzzle pieces. Kim ends up being the first to reach the combination lock but has the wrong set of numbers, as does Alicia. They both return, along with Chelsea, and it's Kim who ends up winning for the third time. Never underestimate that girl. She's is on a bullet train for that final tribal council and nobody's stopping her.

Of course, Chelsea is expecting that Kim is going to give her the idol so that she can guarantee her place in the final four. Heading into tribal, it looks like a split vote with Kim as the deciding factor. With Kat scowling in the background, Kim discusses how important loyalty is. Everyone gives their final thoughts to her before the vote as if hers is the only one that matters! In the end, it seems that it is. With the votes tied, Kim decides to send Alicia to the jury, instead of Chelsea. Very smart move on her part. I had a feeling if she backstabbed Chelsea, she ran the risk of actually losing the game.

The next day, the final four go through the rite of passage to remember the players voted out before them on their way to the immunity challenge. One thing is for sure - so many of the guys definitely went before their time. I wish we had gotten to see more of what players like Matt, Bill, and Jonas were capable of.

Back to the women, though. For their final immunity challenge, they have to use a long pole to maneuver small bowls through a channel and then stack them. The problem is that the structure can wobble, knocking the bowls to the ground and in order to win, they'll need to stack ten! Christina stays with Kim throughout the challenge, but it's Kim who wins again and guarantees her spot at the final tribal council.

At camp, Christina asks Kim to give it to her straight and she does: Christina's going to the jury. She doesn't even ATTEMPT to make a case for Kim to bring her to the end. Even at tribal, she just lays down and dies, as Jeff puts it. As if it didn't make enough sense to bring her to the end, she is not well spoken at all, while Sabrina eloquently makes her point every time she opens her mouth. And yet, it's Christina voted out of the game. Oh, what does it matter? Sabrina could be an award-winning speechwriter for the President of the United States, Kim is walking away with the million.

After a final feast at camp, and some time to self-reflect on the amazing journey they've been on, it's time to face the nine people that they sent out of this game. In Chelsea's opening statement, she credits her alliance with Kim and ability to emotionally check out for getting her to the end. Kim talks about her love of Survivor and compares it to a poker game, as well as the fact that's proud of the way she played. Sabrina points out that her strategy was to have balance in the game, admits to throwing challenges, and highlights her social game.

Jonas is the first jury member up and compliments the girls, with his only tough question to Kim as to why she didn't take Christina to the end. Answer: She worried about a bitter jury voting for someone who did nothing in the game. Christina asks Kim which of the two she'd replace with her and it's Chelsea, then asks Chelsea why she hates people. Ouch. Jay calls out Sabrina for being lazy around camp, Mike asks Kim whether or not she perfected the art of it (she did), and Tarzan just makes a speech about the love for his wife - which I have to admit made me cry a bit.

Leif's trying to work out his feelings about getting voted out. Why? Because he did SO MUCH in this game? Because he was such an important member of ANY alliance? What you need to work out is whatever the heck it is you thought you were doing out there in the game for all those weeks. Moving on...

Alicia is still completely full of herself, saying she has the biggest chance of winning the money.  That was all she has to say.  Troyzan asks Kim when she ruined his chances of winning the game, and she says it's when she took Jonas out.  Ka tells Kim that she destroyed her, then reveals she had open heart surgery when she was young and has to have it again in order to be able to have children.  She finishes by telling everyone not to be angry or vote angry... wow.  That's quite a way to end things.

After the votes, we're transported to the live reunion where Jeff reads them aloud: Kim. Sabrina. Kim. Sabrina. Kim. Kim. Kim. That's enough.  Five is all it takes and Kim is named the winner of Survivor: One World.  Was there every any doubt?
