Catherine from America's Next Top Model: British Invasion

by Gina Scarpa

Last week on America's Next Top Model, the final six were whisked away to Macau, China where they modeled silk gowns while covered in silk worms.  Jay Manuel asked the girls to put emotion into their photos but Catherine's inspiration for her emotion didn't resonate well with the judges.  She was eliminated from the competition and today, we spoke to her in an exclusive interview about competing for a second time, whether or not that was actually her best photo, and more!

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What was your reaction to being asked to compete a second time, but this time, on America's Next Top Model?
A. Catherine: I was so excited! I've been watching the program since the first cycle. I always wanted to be on America's Next Top Model but I thought I couldn't because I'm not American. I applied for Britain's Next Top Model and then was invited to compete this cycle.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Was there a difference between competing over in Britain and then doing the show here?
A. Catherine: Yeah, America's Next Top Model is a much more well oiled machine. It works really well. The photo shoots are more creative. I decided I was going to have more fun in this competition. On Britain's Next Top Model, I was very serious and disappointed when I didn't win. I wanted to have more fun!

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Did you come into this cycle with friends from the UK?
A. Catherine: There was no one from my cycle! I was flattered that I was the only one from mine. There were other girls that knew each other from their cycle.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Which photo shoot was the most difficult for you?
A. Catherine: I think the toughest one for me was with Estelle and having to be on the table. I think it had Vaseline on it, it was so slippery. You didn't want to get in her way. I couldn't wait for it to be over.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What was it like to travel to China and make it that far in the competition?
A. Catherine: I was just so excited. When you get into the competition, the girls aim to at least make it abroad. I went to South Africa in Britain's, which is quite far as well. I would've never gone there if it wasn't for the show.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: I don't know how I'd feel about posing with worms on me! What was your reaction?
A. Catherine: I didn't know what they would be like when they were on me. I didn't know if they'd be slimy or move quickly. I tried not to squish any! I was trying not to kill any of them.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: It seems like Mr. Jay told you one thing at the photo shoot and that conflicted with the feedback Nigel gave you at panel. Did you feel like you got conflicting advice?
A. Catherine: I feel like... Mr. Jay asked me to give an emotion and when I told him the emotion and reason for it, he was all for it. And then, he'd tell me not to pose too much. That's why I felt really disappointed when I got to panel, the photo they chose didn't have any of my emotion.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Don't you wish you could always choose your own photo? Sometimes, I wonder how they come up with them!
A. Catherine: Yeah! We did that once in week 3 and I would've preferred that. I know what I did in this case, I thought there was a better option. Tyra was like, "You can do better," and I was like, "I know Tyra!"

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Do you want to come back to the states or are you going to stay in the UK?
A. Catherine: I would love to model in the states. I'm still going to carry on and see what doors open up for me. I don't know what's going to happen.
