The Next Iron Chef Season 4

by Danae Young

This week on The Next Iron Chef, the chefs met at an old school theatre to receive their next task.

For the Chairman’s Challenge, each chef was given a sweet treat you can find in a theatre. They had to create two dishes with the ingredient, both a savory dish and a sweet dish. Ingenuity was the name of the game this week.

Chef Guarnaschelli won last week, so this week she got to select whichever ingredient she wanted, and she also got to dish out which movie snack the other chefs had to use – pun intended.

The chefs were given 60 minutes to prepare both dishes.

Chef Burrell was given Root Beer. For her savory dish she made Sausage Stuffed Quail in Agrodolce and her sweet dish was Root Beer Chocolate Spice Cake.

Chef Hughes had to use Popcorn in his dishes. His savory dish was Popcorn and Seafood Cream and his sweet dish was Vanilla Popcorn Pudding.

Chef Falkner was given Malt Balls. For her savory dish she made Malted Stout Fish and Chips. Her sweet dish was Chiffon Crunch Cake and Barley Ice Cream.

Chef Samuelsson had to use Chocolate Covered Caramels. For his savory dish he made Chocolate Caramel Glazed Duck and his sweet dish was Chocolate Caramel Cake.

Chef Chiarello used Gummy Candy in his dishes. His savory dish was a Gummy Marinated Lamb Chop and his sweet dish was an Orange Gummy Panna Cotta.

Chef Macmillan used Sour Sugar Candy in both his dishes. His savory dish was a Sweet and Sour Snapper Ceviche and his sweet dish was a Melon Coconut Soup.

Chef Zakarian had to use Cinnamon Candy. For his savory dish he made Cinnamon Chicken Vinegar and for his sweet dish he made Cinnamon Orange Oeufs A La Neige.

Chef Guarnaschelli chose Chocolate Covered Raisins. She made Lamb Loin with Caponata for her savory dish and Golden Raisin Biscuit for her sweet dish.

Chef Falkner won the challenge; however, Chef Macmillan and Chef Hughes were not so lucky. They had to fight it out in the Secret Ingredient Showdown using tofu.

With only 30 minutes to create a tofu inspired dish, the kitchen was a bit hectic.

Chef Macmillan’s dish was a trilogy of tofu with Marinated Silken Tofu, Tempura Tofu and a Pickled Tofu Vegetable Roll.

Chef Hughes made a Crispy Silken Tofu.

The Tofu Showdown was an intense one, but there could only be one winner and that was Chef Macmillan.

Unfortunately Chef Hughes did not create a dish that was up to par with the rest and he was sent home.
