The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Season 2

by Chandra Clewley

We join our ladies of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills again this week with Lisa planning Pandora’s engagement party at Mohammed’s house. It turns out Russell Armstrong and Mohamed had a falling out some time ago, so he is not invited, but Taylor is still opting to go.

On the day of the party, Lisa is nervous and excited. Everyone comes baring gifts and dressed in their finest. It is completely opulent. Of course it is awkward when Taylor comes in and talks to Lisa. Mohamed has gone all out and has performers, music, and basically brings Morocco to Beverly Hills.

Taylor is also planning her daughter Kennedy’s birthday party, and picks out a horse cake that will feed 200 of Kennedy’s closest friends. Hmm….ok…maybe this is how the money troubles happened? Either way, Dana, who is a party planner, is helping her out with the planning.

Later, Taylor and Russell are having Kyle and Mauricio over for dinner.  It is kind of awkward because Taylor always talks mad crap about Russell so when he is super nice to them, no one knows how to react. Russell brings up that there is a story in US Weekly about how they officially separated but here they are together. Turns out that Lisa is really good friends with the editor so, did she leak this? Russell says he is going to serve them (being US Weekly) with a lawsuit to find out who the source is.

Kyle’s Mother-In-Law is visiting Adrienne’s husband Paul to get a consultation for a face lift. She looks awful right after surgery, but Paul Nassif is a great surgeon so it is exciting to see how she will look.

Kim has been keeping it a secret that she has a new boyfriend named Ken, who she has been with for a year. So, here is the thing, during this scene Kim is telling him about how her family may not like him and how hard they are. But Kim is this classic personality type that has always existed, the one that seems to be crushed or protected her entire life. She is the classic “black sheep”…I think there needs to be an entire sociology Master’s thesis on how jacked up her life is just because she has a different approach to life than not only her sisters, but most of “normal” society. No viewer is sure quite what is going on with Kim. Is it drugs? Is it drinking? Is it the aftermath of punishing your body and your brain for so many years with substance abuse? Or is it just what happens to a person who is on the fringe of society and made to feel unaccepted and not good enough their entire life just because they are more sensitive?

Okay, enough psychoanalysis of Kim, it’s just that she can do no right at this point with her family and holds on to her childhood and her mother’s memory in order to find her self-worth. Haven’t we all seen this before? It’s a classic family dynamic.  How sad for everyone involved.
