Dancing With the Stars Season 12

by Danae Young

This week on Dancing With the Stars, each star had to choose their most memorable year and tell that story in a dance.

Rob and Cheryl danced the Fox Trot to Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon.” Rob chose the year 2003, which is when his father passed away. Len said he put the “dash” in Kardashian. Bruno thought there was a beautiful storyline behind it. Carrie Ann likes watching him dance and his genuine progress each week.

Score: 8+8+8=24.

Chynna and Tony followed with a Rumba to “Hold On” by Wilson Phillips. Chynna chose the year 1990 when her first single was released. Bruno said it was seductive, intriguing and stylish. Carrie Ann said that they asked for more and she definitely gave it to them. Len said that she took the competition to a whole new level.

Score: 8+9+9=26.

Chaz and Lacey also danced the Rumba to “Laugh at Me” by Sonny. He chose this year to tell his story because he is happier than he has ever been. Carrie Ann was impressed by his courage but thought he looked really distracted. Len said it was his best dance. Bruno said he has gone far and done very well.

Score: 6+6+6=18.

Kristin and Mark danced the Samba to Beyonce’s “Crazy In Love.” Her story took place in 2005 when she moved to Los Angeles after graduating from high school. Len said the Beyonce stuff isn’t his cup of tea, but thought the rest was fabulous. Bruno called her a fast-moving devil woman. Carrie Ann was really impressed and told her to keep doing difficult choreography.

Score: 8+8+8=24.

Carson and Anna danced the Tango to “It’s My Life” by No Doubt. His story took place in 2003 when the show Queer Eye For the Straight Guy came out. Bruno thought the dance was insanely brilliant. Carrie Ann loves him and thought he brought drama and entertainment together. Len said he put the “boy” in flamboyant and enjoyed the dance very much.

Score: 8+7+8=23.

J.R. and Karina danced the Rumba to Tim McGraw’s “If You’re Reading This.” J.R.’s story was the year his accident took place in Iraq and thinking he would’ve been better off if he didn’t survive. Carrie Ann said that heroes are normal people who do extraordinary things and he did something extraordinary tonight. Len said he danced to a standard that was totally unexpected and thought it was a wonderful performance. Bruno said he is an inspiration to us all and thought he danced from his heart.

Score: 9+8+9=26.

Nancy and Tristan danced the Waltz to a lullaby called “Moon River.” When Nancy had her twins, the doctors said her and her daughter were dying. They all survived and the first lullaby she sang to them was Moon River. Len said she needs better posture but thought she showed the emotion of the dance very well. Bruno said it was warm, soft and dreamy. Carrie Ann said it felt like a live-action lullaby.

Score: 7+7+7=21.

Ricki and Derek danced the Rumba to “Gravity” by Sara Bareilles. She chose last year when she went through a bad divorce and her house burned down. She met a man and is very in love and happy. Bruno said every step was as expressive as a word in a poem. Carrie Ann thought it was fabulous and breathtaking. Len thought it was a great routine and said she danced it very well.

Score: 9+9+9=27.

Hope and Maks danced the Cha Cha Cha to “Tonight” by Enrique Iglesias. In the 2011 Women’s World Cup, the U.S. team made it to the finals and lost, which taught Hope a huge lesson that winning isn’t always what is most important. Carrie Ann said it was sexy but told her she needs to work on her walk. Len said it was her best dance so far. Bruno said the sexy minx is out of the cage.

Score: 8+8+8=24.

David and Kym danced the Rumba to “Ooh Child” by The Five Stairsteps. David’s story was about last year when his marriage fell apart and he escaped to alcohol. It was a rough time, but it showed him how important his daughter is to him. Len said he did a great job and was proud of him. Bruno thought he brought sensitivity and vulnerability. Carrie Ann said it was a very nice comeback.

Score: 8+8+8=24.
