Project Runway Season 9

by Gina Scarpa

Things start off on this week's Project Runway in way the designers would never expect - competing in an athletic challenge at The Armory. Tim and Heidi announce, to everyone's dismay, that this will be another team challenge. In order to determine the team captains, they'll have to compete in a 200m race and finish in the top four.

Cecilia, who has already been feeling the pressure of the competition, reaches her breaking point and decides to quit. Anthony makes a good point: why work so hard to get here just to turn around and leave?

Oliver takes a pretty bad tumble during the race and is examined by the medical staff because he was dizzy and couldn't breathe. The whole thing ended up being a panic attack and he was able to rejoin the group. Joshua, Bryce, Anthony, and Viktor are the first four to finish. The teams are: Joshua, Anya, and Becky; Bryce, Kimberly, and Daniele; Anthony, Laura, and Bert; and Viktor and Oliver.

Because it's just Viktor and Oliver, Heidi throws everyone for a loop when she says they get to bring back an eliminated designer to be on the team and get back in the game. That person is Josh C - awesome!

Each team will have to create three cohesive looks to go with Heidi's sneakers and use the same materials she uses for her shoes. The winning look will be sold on Amazon and become part of Heidi's line for New Balance. Yeah, that's huge.

When Tim and Heidi make the rounds in the workroom, they criticize Bryce for not being fashion forward and dislike the boxy look of Kimberly's dress. They advise Viktor's team to come up with a more cohesive look but it seems Oliver doesn't want to take any advice. Anthony's team is creating outfits that are too dressy for Heidi's taste, and Josh's team only has one look that is deemed fashionable. Seeing that they still need to do a lot of work, Heidi and Tim let everyone stay up and work until 4am. I don't know if I'd want to celebrate staying up that late!

The drama in the workroom this week comes courtesy of Josh M and Becky. I don't know why he took her for his team when he had no interest in her creative input. After he throws an attitude at her, he goes on the attack with Bert, who tells him to drop dead. I guess being a diva gets you camera time but who would seriously want to work with you after some of this behavior?

Model and designer Erin Wasson is this week's guest judge at the runway show. I started off like Team Viktor's look until the dress came out. It looked like it didn't fit the model right up top. Team Bryce's look is pretty good, with the exception of Daniele's outfit. Two of the three outfits from Team Anthony are definitely not their best work but I do love what Bert made. Josh M's team finishes things up with a collection that isn't my favorite but I have a feeling the judges are going to like it.

After the show, Anthony and Laura attack Bert in front of the judges (classy) but the panel fires back, telling Anthony he should've focused more on his disastrous look than what Bert is doing.  As predicted, the judges do like what Josh M's team did but pick on Becky's look a little.  That, of course, opens the door for the pair to air their grievances against each other.

Viktor and Josh M both end winning the challenge - it's a tie!  All of their team members are safe as well.  Bert is in, along with Laura, Kimberly, and Bryce, leaving Anthony and Danielle in the bottom.  Heidi was bored with Danielle's poorly made blouse and felt Anthony completely fell apart.  In the end though, Anthony Ryan lives to see another day and Danielle is eliminated.
