The Glee Project

This week on The Glee Project, the theme is Dance Ability and the contestants' homework assignment is "Hey, Soul Sister" by Train. When guest judge/mentor is Harry Shum Jr. (who plays Mike Chang on Glee) walks into the room on performance day, everyone freaks out. It's clear the guy is a fan favorite.

Samuel ends up winning the homework challenge, which is pretty surprising considering he doesn't consider himself a dancer. It was his confidence that ended up winning over Harry and Robert. Back in the room, Alex says that he threw the challenge so that "somebody else could have a shot". Ugh, enough of his attitude please!

This week's song for the video shoot is "Can't Touch This" by MC Hammer and the contestants are rapping, not singing.  Samuel has a featured part and gets to do some improvisational rap during the dance break.  He can't think of anything to do so he just imitates a style of rap that he hears Hannah do, then takes all the credit for it when Nikki praises it.

There are a lot of people that struggle during choreography but Hannah has an especially hard time feeling comfortable. Zach further blows up Alex's ego by asking him to teach his fellow contestants but it seems Alex is spending more time critiquing than learning the dance himself.

At the video shoot, Hannah sulked over Samuel's use of "skadoosh", McKynleigh was told to bring it, and Alex didn't go above and beyond his dancing. Damian finally perkedup but Matheus melted down over a few minor mistakes and was labeled a "divo".

Damian, Marissa, Lindsay, and Samuel were all called back and I'm particularly happy that Damian took a step forward and didn't find himself in danger again. Hannah and Cameron are also called back, but Alex, Matheus, and McKynleigh are going to have to sing for their lives. McKylnleigh is given "Last Name" by Carrie Underwood, Alex is assigned "I Will Always Love You" by Dolly Parton (and made famous by Whitney Houston), and Matheus is asked to sing "Down" by Jay Sean.

McKynleigh sings it fine but doesn't really wow Ryan, Robert, and Zach. Ryan has been looking for a country singer for Glee but has yet to find him or her. Is McKynleigh that person?

Matheus brings the energy and confidence during his performance, even ripping his shirt off halfway through. Ryan told him that Glee is about being your better self and his behavior in the video shoot was not that.

Alex's performance felt insincere to me but there's no denying the kid can sing. Afterwards, Ryan bluntly asks him if he thinks he's better than everyone but he swears that he's not. Alex opened up about his sexuality though and that sincerity may have saved him tonight.

In the end, McKynleigh just wasn't developing and standing out fast enough for the people of Glee and she was cut from the competition.  Was it the right choice or do you think Matheus or Alex should've gone instead for their bad attitudes?
