Platinum Hit

It's down to the final seven on Platinum Hit and this week, they receive a note asking them to put everything on the line. They meet up with Kara at Third Street Promenade and find out they'll be writing about risk... and performing their hooks right there in the street! In order to win, they'll have to end up with the most money at the end of the day.

After all the dollars and cents were counted, Jes came in third, Johnny came in second, and with 43% of the money, Jackie is the winner. Time to pick teams. Jackie takes Scotty and Sonyae, Johnny chooses Brian, and Jes goes with Nick.

Everyone is thrown for a loop when they find out that they have to choose a completely different genre than the one the hook was originally written in. Jackie chooses country - stupid, when you could have gone with R&B, given your teammates. Johnny goes reggae (daWHAT?) and Jes goes pop.

In the studio, Nick basically leads Jes to the land of pop, making changes while she happily follows orders. Brian and Johnny have so much fun with their bromance that they need to stop and really focus to finish their song. The minute they get serious, though, Brian starts to wear on Johnny's nerves because he talks more than he writes. Meanwhile, Jackie seems to be on one page while Scotty and Sonyae are on another.

Johnny and Brian's reggae song, "Betting My Life On You", ends up being the winning performance. Keith pays it a big compliment, saying he thinks it's his favorite song of the season. Jes and Nick's song, "Save Yourself", is good enough to get them out of this challenge but guest judge Bonnie McKee was seriously confused by the lyrics.

Jackie's group ends up in the bottom, further proving that she can write a hook but struggles to produce a hit song in its entirety. Kara tells them that they would've been escorted to the airport in Nashville with those lyrics. Jackie immediately goes into self-preservation mode and tries throwing Scotty under the bus, saying he was more focused on the melody than the lyrics.  She also tried to partially blame Sonyae for the weak lyrics.

In the end, the judges weren't buying Jackie's excuses and finger pointing.  She was eliminated from the competition and that narrows the field down to six.
