Whitney Miller Winner of MasterChef Season 1

by Gina Scarpa

This week on MasterChef, season 1 winner Whitney Miller returned to the show that helped bring her career to a new level. Her first cookbook, "Modern Hospitality", hit stores this week and she's currently touring around the country promoting it. Today, we caught up with her in an exclusive interview to find out about life since MasterChef.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What originally made you want to try out for MasterChef?
A. Whitney: What really drew me to it was just the fact that they were looking for amateur cooks. We all had the same level playing field. They looked at me like this little girl. I told Gordon Ramsay, "I've been cooking for ten years!" I really was in the kitchen by myself, since age 12, preparing eclairs and things like that.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What has life been like since winning the show?
A. Whitney: It's been exciting, traveling all over from Los Angeles to Chicago and New York multiple times. The first time I got on a plane for the show. I've met people I look up to, like Martha Stewart and Emeril Lagasse.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Do you get recognized when you're out?
A. Whitney: I do! Actually, in New York, in November, I was walking with my family and someone called out "MasterChef"! It was really surreal. It's really funny when it happens.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Tell us about your cookbook, "Modern Hospitality", and the inspiration behind it.
A. Whitney: This is something I've been wanting to do since I was younger. I thought it would be a great opportunity to gather all my recipes. The problem was that I never measured anything. I was like, "Oh my gosh, I don't have any recipes written down." My mom and I were in the kitchen, every day, testing recipes.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What was it like to return to MasterChef this week?
A. Whitney: I was a little nervous. I was like, "Oh my gosh, they're gonna give me a script!" Chef Ramsay definitely made me feel at home and very comfortable. It was a very warm welcome. Seeing the reactiong of the other contestants, I felt like they were happy to see me.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: You're the first winner of MasterChef. What is your advice to the soon-to-be season 2 winner?
A. Whitney: I would definitely say keep your dreams as big as you want them. I definitely have some things that I would love to do. No matter your age, go after your dreams and keep them big. Don't let that title be the one thing you're know for.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What are you up to now?
A. Whitney: I just started my cookbook tour. I'll be traveling through Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia. I'll be doing cooking demos, too.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: How can fans stay in touch with you?
A. Whitney: I launched a website, whitneymillermc.com. I also have a Twitter and Facebook, under the same name.
