The Challenge: Rivals

by Gina Scarpa

Wes has a plan on The Challenge: Rivals and I think that plan is to get punched in the face by CT. After all, if CT loses his cool (as he does on most challenges), he'll go home and nobody ever has to worry about facing him and Adam in the jungle. It's equally a brilliant and completely stupid strategy - because I most definitely would not want to get punched in the face by CT. He's like Pringles. Once he pops, he can't stop.

Meanwhile, is it just me or is Paula falling for Big Mike? She's preying on the young ones this season!

This week's challenge, Sync or Swim, seems almost impossible to complete without getting injured. Teams started in a box filled with dirt and as they dug out, their box would raise up over the ocean. Once they reached a platform, they had to simultaenously jump onto a zip line and ride that until they fell, then swim to the finish line. Basically, everyone tumbled awkwardly into the water below them.

The worst fall came from Mike who had a 200 pound Leroy crash down on top of him upon hitting the water. Amazingly, though, he finished the round and made it to the finish line, only to cough up blood and be rushed off in an ambulance. Laurel and Cara Maria DQ'd because Laurel wouldn't listen when her partner tried to tell her that they couldn't pull the zip line towards themselves. Jonna and Jasmine and Camila and Teresa spent a lot of time throwing dirt at one another, while CT and Adam absolutely smoked Wes and Kenny.

In the end, CT and Adam walked away with $1,000 each while Ev and Paula continued to prove that they're the frontrunners of the women, winning immunity. Being the only team that DQ'd, Laurel and Cara Maria were automatically going into the jungle and thought they'd be facing Jonna and Jasmine.

Back at the house, though, Paula had a different plan - take a 50/50 shot at getting rid of one of the strongest teams there. WIth the help of some of her friends, the tides turn and Teresa and Camila end up being nominated. They behave like spoiled brats, telling everyone they're going to quit and lying in bed with sad, puppy dog eyes.

Little does everyone know that they actually plan on competing hard and that's exactly what they did in the jungle. Unfortunately, the challenge wasn't exactly physical and it didn't require great mental capacity. The two teams just had to turn doors with the Rivals logo on it to face them. It looked like Camila and Teresa were going to take it but something changed towards the end of the five minute challenge and Cara Maria and Laurel were deemed safe.

On a side note, Mandi is clearly interested in CT and many of her friends (mainly Wes) try to warn her that it's a terrible idea. She doesn't want to hear it, though. Haven't we all had friends like that - who don't want to listen when we try to warn them that they're about to make a truly terrible decision?
