The Real Housewives of New York City Season 4

by Mike Bandy

The beginning of last night's episode of RHONYC showcased the planning and preparation for two 16th birthday parties - one for Ramona's daughter Avery, and one for LuAnn's daughter Victoria. I'll skip most of the details and just talk about who was raised properly. Victoria, while talking to an event planner, was courteous, respectful, and thanked her mother for wanting to plan a Sweet 16 party for her. Meanwhile, Avery was nasty, disrespectful, barking orders at everyone, and scowling. She was rude, unappreciative, and absolutely awful, and if she were my kid, I'd wonder where I went wrong. But I guess with a mother like Ramona, we can't really expect much more. Ugh.

After all that madness, we had to deal with Jill and her sister, meeting up with Sonja at some sort of plastic surgeon. Jill was there to get a "liquid facelift", where they inject Restalyn around the perimeter of her face - but more importantly, she brought her sister to give Sonja bankruptcy advice. Sonja maintained that she always pays her bills and her financial situation is just fine. Delusions must be fun. Meanwhile, Jill got injected and screamed the whole time, but I guess it's a small price to pay to look continuously shrill.

She'll need to be shrill for the surprise party LuAnn and Cindy planned for her, at a bar owned by Josephine Baker's son, Jean Claude. There were drag queens and kings galore, and little to no space. Jill came in, everybody yelled surprise, blah. Ramona put on a red wig and did an imitation of Jill. Fine. The highlight was LuAnn coming downstairs in a glittery dress and a GIANT blue headdress (apparently she's RuPaul now), and singing "Almost Like Being With Jill", to the tune of "Almost Like Being in Love." It was the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen on television, and of course, she butchered it. I swear, my couch moved six inches because of Nat King Cole rolling over in his grave.

LuAnn and her daughter were trying to find a dress for Victoria to wear to the party, and the first contender was a dress that Paris Hilton wore to her 21st birthday party. It was short and full of holes, much like Paris Hilton's liver. The winner ended up being a glittery black frock that LuAnn insisted needed to be longer.

Meanwhile, Alex and Simon were visited by a hypnotherapist, who was there to help Simon stop smoking. Sigh. Simon had one last cigarette, and then the small, old man put him under hypnosis, and then yelled: "YOU ARE A NON SMOKER!" Meanwhile, Alex looked DEAD serious. It was all I could do not to fall off the couch laughing.

It's the Day of the Dueling Parties, and surprise, Avery really liked the way her venue turned out. I was sure that she'd spit enough fire to melt all the snow in her Winter Wonderland, but she couldn't have been happier. Her party was half kids, half adults, because Ramona just couldn't let it be about her daughter. The whole thing seemed very cold, no pun intended, and by the end of the evening, Kelly was feeling sorry for Avery, and so was I.

Meanwhile, at Victoria's party, all the kids were having a great time, and dancing, and LuAnn had the good sense to make sure that everyone got in okay, and then made her exit, because no 16 year old wants their parents at their party the whole night. Classy.

Jill's husband and Simon were talking to each other, and Jill's husband said that it was brought to his attention that there were hate blogs about Jill, and that Simon was participating in this. Simon denied it, and Jill's husband said that he wanted him to have an understanding that there was only to be peace and love involved. This is just a prelude to next week, when the women all attack him for being "creepy". Can't wait!
