Platinum Hit: Episode 4 Recap

After an unnecessary reaction to seeing Jewel on Platinum Hit tonight, the contestants found out that they'd have to rap about a superpower they wish they had. Looking around the room, it's pretty clear that some people are going to be put way out of their comfort zone. To add to the pressure, superstar producer Rodney Jerkins shows up to help judge the hook challenge.

Oof, and embarrass themselves they do - Melissa, Jes, Jackie, and Brian perform hooks that are seriously rough times. Amazingly, Jackie came in third place. I have no words for that... and neither does Nick. Sonyae finishes in second place, while Johnny comes in first. Sonyae must be freaking out that she lost to a little John Mayer.

Johnny works with Scotty and Jes, Sonyae's team is Nick and Melissa, and Jackie takes Brian and Amber (by default, because nobody picked her). Jewel throws one last twist at the contestants - they only have one day to write.

What a shock. Johnny and Jes are "totally on the same page". I wonder if it's because they're "totally into each other". If I was Scotty, I'd feel super awkward. Nick and Sonyae seem like they're going to be a strong writing duo, while Melissa is off in na-na land. Watching Jackie work, I'm still trying to figure out how she was in the top three this week. Brian said it best when he compared her work to the silliness of Weird Al!

Even though Johnny made a valiant effort during the performances for the judges, Sonyae's group seems like they'll be the winners. Jackie's song, on the other hand, is so awful it's embarassing. The only redeeming aspect of "Super Duper Rapper" is Amber's backup vocals.

Surprisingly, Johnny is quite the little rapper and thanks to help from Jes and Scotty, has the winning song. Sonyae's team is safe, which leaves Jackie, Brian, and Amber in the bottom.

Rodney tells Amber that he absolutely hated the line about "running rhymes through my head in my canopy bed". Keith tells her that he hasn't been able to figure her out yet, and Kara tells her that she has no depth. She seriously took a beating.

Jackie starts throwing people under the bus in order to save herself - which ultimately works. She and Brian are both safe while Amber takes the fall for a seriously heinous song and goes home.

It's pretty safe to say Jackie isn't making any friends right now and not having anyone who wants to work with you doesn't seem like it can help you.  She's gonna have stiff competition though for Most Hated, though, with Sonyae and Nick still in the mix.

Platinum Hit airs Mondays at 10/9c on Bravo.
