Amber Ojeda from Platinum Hit

This season on Platinum Hit, Amber Ojeda seemed to have promise but the competition never gave her the opportunity to showcase what she can really do. This week's rap challenge put her on Jackie's team and their song, about a super duper rapper, landed them in the bottom. Amber was sent home and today, we talked to her in an exclusive interview about her time on Platinum Hit.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What was your songwriting and performance experior prior to Platinum Hit?
A. Amber: I've been writing for probably 7 years. I started with poetry and got into music. I've been really, really active. I got a distribution deal in Japan.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What made you decide to try out for the show?
A. Amber: It's really funny. My manager had been trying to get me on American Idol and shows like that and I was like, "There's no way you're going to get me on a reality show. If there's one about songwriting, I'm your girl." I said that because I didn't think there would ever really be one. She called me and was like, "You're going to get on this because of our longstanding joke."

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: We didn't get to learn a whole lot about you this season. Do you feel that you were edited out of things or that there wasn't a challenge that really allowed you the opportunity to shine?
A. Amber: I don't think the judges necessarily connected with what I did. Personality wise, I got edited out of things and I was disappointed. I really was active and contributing. Until the last episode, I didn't get picked in the bottom - ever.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What did you feel that we didn't get to see about you?
A. Amber: I think that what they did hit the mark on was that I'm very sensitive. I wear my heart on my sleeve. I'm uber emotional. I write love songs. If I had been sent home on a love song challenge, I would've been even more emotional, if you can believe that. I think I'm highly sensitive but I'm also very forward and focused. When something isn't right, I speak my mind. I'm a firecracker in that sense.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: I'm not gonna lie when I say that I was a little surprised Jackie's hook put her in third place in this week's rap challenge? Were you surprised and why didn't you want to be picked for her team?
A. Amber: Absolutely. Contestants and viewers watching were flabbergasted. It made for good television but it was like watching a train wreck. I just had to have fun. I wrote a campy, Weird Al song which is how I am going to approach something like that.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Do you feel like Jackie threw you under the bus to the panel?
A. Amber: I think what's not shown is that we're on that stage for a very long time. It shows like 3 seconds. It shows a lot of what went into the session. They try to figure out who did what and Jackie did what she had to do. That's all I have to say about that.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: The judges were really harsh on you this week. Did you agree with their feedback?
A. Amber: What, that I lacked substance? When you ask me to write a song about being a super duper rapper, I'll lack substance. That's what the challenge required. I feel the criticism was unjust. I think the whole thing was ridiculous.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: If you had won a hook challenge and had the choice, which two contestants would you have liked to collaborate with?
A. Amber: Johnny and Jes. They're true cast members, besides Karen, that I have a really great relationship with outside of the show. They are sound and kind. They write music that I connect to.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What's next for you?
A. Amber: I just released an interactive music feature on my site, amberojeda.com. I just signed with a global entertainment company. It's so humbling. I'm working on putting out music online. I think the online game is the major one. It's such an amazing time as an independent artist. I'm setting up a summer schedule and seeing where I want to perform.
