This week's episode of Platinum Hit got started with a hook challenge, where the songwriters had to create a song about a road trip. They were also given a postcard with a word on it that they had to incorporate into their chorus. The hooks that stood out came from Jes, Melissa, Karen, Johnny, and Brian. When is Amber going to step up and show what she can do?

The top three hooks, after being judged by Kara and Jewel are: Jackie, Jes, and Johnny. As the winner of the challenge, Johnny got to immediately pick his entire team and he went with Brian and Scotty. Jes chose Amber and Melissa, while Jackie went with Karen, Sonyae, and Nick (by default because Jes didn't want him).

Everyone piles into SUVs to head out on a road trip and arrive at a sketchy motel that looks like it's straight out of a horror movie. They make a lot of progress on the three songs, have a sleepover, and head to the studio the next day to finalize things.

Oh, but time out. There's a little showmance blossoming between Jes and Johnny. As two of the winners of the hook challenge, they better not let this distract them from what's really important.

Jewel and Kara are joined on the panel by Keith Naftaly, Senior VP at A&R, RCA/Jive as well as guest judge Natasha Bedingfield. Pressure's on!

Maybe it was the theme, the combination of people, or the fact that people are starting to step up their game but these were my three favorite songs of the season. After performances and deliberation, it's announced that Johnny's group wins this week's challenge! Jes's group is safe, while Jackie's group is in the bottom and up for elimination.

Karen's lyrics are called out for being cliche and boring, which is something the other contestants have been saying about her this season. The panel seems pretty set on keeping the others so it comes as no surprise to anyone that Karen is eliminated - well, except to her.
