American Idol Season 10

by Gabrielle Abrams

Tonight, on American Idol, the contestants sang music from the 21st century. The eliminated contestants hit the stage and sang Pink's "So What" and proved to America that they did deserve to be on this show... well, all except Paul in this performance. The contestants talked about each other in a rather funny short video before they went onstage.

Scotty McCreery - "Swinging"

Holding the microphone like a flute, as pointed out by the other contestants, he came out and sang his country song. This wasn't his best performance on Idol but that boy does know how to work the audience. He has definitely become comfortable on that stage. Randy said it was too safe.

James Durbin - "Uprising"

James sang the first ever Muse song on Idol and also brought some marching band drums. The contestants decide everything that goes on during their performance, and James certainly knows how to entertain a crowd! Jennifer said that this was the most theatrical performance of the night. James hit some of the highest notes that even most girls can't hit. Steven told him to stay out of his closet.

Haley Reinhart - "Rolling in the Deep"

She started off slow, sitting down in a red polka dot dress. She picked a song that worked well with her voice though some spots were a little rough. She sang with a little less growl tonight, making her song a little less bogged down. Randy said that she picked a great direction for her singing.

Jacob Lusk - "Dance with my Father"

He picked a song that has a lot of meaning to him and the emotions were clearly shown on his face. Jacob certainly has an amazing voice, but compared with the other contestants, his performances are slightly boring. But Jacob hit some amazing notes and the song was so strong because of that emotional attachment he has to it. Randy is awaiting the return of the old Jacob and wants him to stop holding back.

Casey Abrams - "Harder to Breathe"

Casey brings out his guitar for tonight's performance and shows us his many instrumental talents. He made this song his own and rocked out to it. He even sang the notes of his guitar solo. There never was a dull moment in his performance tonight. He even sang the last bit a capella, giving Jennifer a kiss on the cheek at the end. Randy said that Casey is full of surprises and is willing to take chances. Steven said something that had to be bleeped out (or really they just turned off the volume).

Stefano Langone - "Closer"

He chose more of a dance beat, you know, that song that you hear in the clubs. This just didn't work out that well for him. It was fun to see a new side of Stefano as he was running around the stage and just seemed more confident in himself. Although Stefano has a nice voice, he just seems to get lost in the crowd with this group of contestants. Jennifer liked his swag tonight and that it felt like a concert.

Lauren Alaina - "Born to Fly"

She whipped out the hard country again tonight. This is the Lauren we all love, country fan or not. She looked really comfortable and looked like she was having a blast on that stage. She picked a song that she clearly enjoys singing and it came out well in her voice. Steven said she is so good naturally. Jennifer said she has a lot of color in her voice.

Tune in tomorrow at 8/7c to American Idol on FOX to see what contestants make it to the Top 6.
