America's Next Top Model Cycle 16

by Mike Bandy

ANTM began with the girls coming home from panel to find a large roll hanging on the window, with a sign that said "Pull me" on it. When the girls pulled, they found all kinds of different hairstyles on it, which means it's MAKEOVER TIME!! Unfortunately, nobody knew exactly what they'd be getting, and they were all pretty nervous about it. Sara, in particular, said that she hoped she got really long hair, which pretty much ensured that she wouldn't.

The next day, the girls headed off to the Prive salon, and the pandemonium began...except it didn't! Most of the girls' makeovers weren't really makeovers at all. The ones that stood out the most were Brittani, who got a short black bob with blunt bangs, Mikaela got a long black weave, and Dominique got a long, curly, dark red weave, which she didn't really like at first. Sara got the short, boyish cut we all knew she'd get. Alexandria had her roots touched up and had extensions put in, but she was complaining and crying to most of the staff at the salon, which made a lot of the girls pretty upset.

Perhaps the biggest (and I'm being literal here) transformation was Molly, who got a very large blonde curly weave. The problem was that, since her hair is so fine, they didn't want to attack a weave normally, so they made a makeshift one and attached hair to it. The result was a big, blonde mess, and you could see where Molly's hair ended and the tracks began. She was really upset about it, but played along really well for the photo.

Upon arriving home, the girls got a Tyra mail which read, "Tomorrow, you'll learn all about photosynthesis". Whoosh! Off to the Orcutt Estate Ranch, where they met Mr. Jay, Pamela Hanson, world renowned fashion photographer; and fashion stylist Lori Goldstein. The shoot was all about couture gowns from famous designers, and they'd be posing in groups. Kasia and Molly were first, and their shoot started off awkwardly, because they couldn't figure out how to work the dresses together, but Molly dominated the shot.

Alexandria and Monique did reasonably well, though they were bickering between each other for most of it, and Monique really didn't want to pose with Alex. Sara and Mikaela were next, and they were happy to be paired together, but the shot didn't work out too well for Jay. Brittani and Hannah ended up doing really well together, and really worked with each other in their shot. The last group was Dalya, Jaclyn, and Dominique. Dalya and Jaclyn were doing very well posing together, but Dominique wasn't able to find any inspiration for the shot. She said that she was giving her all, but nobody saw it.

Back at the house, the girls were trying to stay out of Alexandria's way, and Alex knows that people are intimidated by her, and said that they should be, because it's a competition. Most of the girls in the house have something negative to say about Alexandria.

Here comes panel, with guest judge Lori Goldstein! The highlights: Brittani can do no wrong. The judges loved her makeover, and she was amazing in her shot with Hannah. Alexandra nailed every shot, but was a diva on set, which is a no no. Molly was very striking in her photo, even with the bad weave (which Tyra said they'd fix if she stuck around), and Sara lacks confidence in her modeling.

During deliberation, the judges said that Alexandria was bothersome but has great shots, Mikaela was awkward in the face, Sara doesn't know her own potential, and Dominique's shot didn't fit in with Dalya and Jaclyn at all. Here come the call-outs!!

1. Alexandria (who was told to tone down her attitude on set)

2. Molly (Yay! New and better hair on the way!)

3. Brittani

4. Kasia

5. Jaclyn

6. Hannah

7. Monique

8. Dalya

9. Mikaela

Dominique and Sara...please step forward. The judges thought that Sara had potential, but she doesn't believe in herself enough. Dominique is an odd beauty, but freckles don't make the model, it has to come from the inside. The picture was pulled, Sara got to stay, and Dominique was eliminated.

Tyra told Dominique that she walked away from the competition a little bit, and asked if she would walk away from a modeling career as well. Dominique said that she'll go to every agency she can think of, but Tyra wants her to practice in the mirror first. Dominique said that she has a great personality, but it just didn't show.
