"Irritability Rears Its Ugly Head"

The Celebrity Rehab residents have been sober for seven days and the withdrawal side affects are almost unbearable, for both the patients and the viewers. A double episode of double sized drama brings temper tantrums and fights. We almost need an Inception-style diagram to map all the relational reactions.

Eric hasn't had too much air time until now. His withdrawal from pot has made him panicky and impatient with everyone. After a good cryfest with Dr. Drew, he goes to a seemingly calm lunch with the group.  Janice Dickinson pries into his personal life and his ex-wife, and he gets super cranky. he later talks to Jason Wahler about how much Janice annoys him and how he thinks she is the root of everyone's problems. Such great foreshadowing for events to come.

Jason Davis and Frankie Lons continue to bicker, and Jason chases Frankie around threatening to steal her wig. Jeremy London is fed up and yells at both of them to grow up. Meanwhile, crankypants Shelley tries to lead them in a morning meditation but they all jump down her throat. Leif Garrett wonders why he ended up deciding to stay. I tend to agree with him.

Janice is constantly picking on her roommate Rachel Uchitel, calling her a slob and chiding her for being a "socialite". Conveniently, the rest of the group goes on an outing so Dr. Drew can deal with her. Rachel claims that Dr. Drew knows how Janice is acting and not doing anything about it. Dr. Drew suddenly gets defensive and says Rachel is accusing him of lying. Rachel, in a moment of maturity, says the hostility is not about him and ends the session. She then starts packing and decides to leave. No one convinces her to stay, probably because this is partly staged.

The group comes back and finds Rachel gone. Leif flips out, and Jeremy London leaves a message for her on her voicemail. The next day at group process, Eric tries to explain to Janice that his problem with her is that she cannot give anyone else a chance to talk and always makes things about her. He understands that comes from a childhood trauma, but points out that it can drive people away. Janice, proving his point, goes on a rant. Meanwhile, Jason and Frankie start going at it again, and Dr. Drew and Counselor Bob have to shush the group.

Jason Wahler, in the first complete sentence uttered since the showstarted exclaims "I've been to eight other rehabs and none of them were as horrible as this!" Frankie breaks down from the attack and the group disbands. Dr. Drew meets with Frankie and she talks about how it hurts her when people tell her to act her age (fifty). She's been using for thirty years, so she's frozen in development at twenty. Dr. Drew assures her that her development will catch up when she gets sober.

The next day, Rachel arrives back at the center. Is anyone surprised?

The gang welcomes her back and feeds her ego by letting her know how much they missed her. Thus falling right into her very trap. Jeremy hugs her tight and says "you're my rock here, I can't get through this without you." Let's keep and eye on those two. Dr. Drew asks her, "Did we pass the test?" referring to how Rachel will test people she is close to by pushing away to see how they will react. Which is a fairly self-absorbed act, but this is Celeb Rehab, where all actions are justified and enabled.

Rachel confronts Janice about accusing her of stealing some of her clothes when she left, and with Janice being Janice, escalates it and another fight ensues. Eric calls Janice a derogatory term that her father once called her and that sends Janice into...well, a Janice moment. So much in fact that they call in a special counselor for her to talk to. The counselor mistakenly tells her that she should "show compassion" to the other folks, and that sends Janice off and she rips off her mic pack and claims she's done. She begins to panic and has a full-blown panic attack in her bedroom while the rest of the group looks on from the hall and laugh. Which seems pretty cruel, even for these folks.

The episode is left with yet another cliffhanger with Janice having a breakdown. Which leads to the question: is Janice having these breakdowns because she is being self-absorbed and wanting camera time? Or even if she is, is that something that she can even control? I'd be surprised if this group makes it to the end without killing each other, leaving, using, or a combination thereof.
