David Caldwell from The Fashion Show: Ultimate Collection

On this week's episode of The Fashion Show: Ultimate Collection, David was deemed "out of fashion" after his second time being in the bottom two. Last time, he escaped elimination by the skin of his teeth after hesitating when the judges asked him to justify why he should continue on in the competition, then explaining how his grandmother is his inspiration. David also started to get cozy with Dominique, a young designer fresh out of school, during this competition. As he leaves her and the rest of his housemates behind, there's no telling what the future holds for this "talented designer" who just "didn't stretch himself far enough."

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: When you were eliminated you not only left the competition, but you also left behind someone who you had been building a strong bond with. So the question we all want to know the answer to - what became of you and Dominique after you left?
A. David: We have remained friends.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Do you think your relationship with Dominique may have distracted you from the competition?
A. David: Dominique was not a distraction at all. She was the only person I felt had my back during the competition and that is comforting. I have a flirtatious character and that might have caused a distraction, but I also had her best interest at heart. She is an emotional person and I was just trying to be supportive.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: The last time you were in the bottom two, you hesitated when the judges asked you why you should continue on in the competition. Were you truly ready to give up? What made you open up to them about your grandmother being your inspiration?
A. David: I am never ready to give up, that is not my character. I was in shock! I was standing in front of the judges defending myself and my design, completely vulnerable. I had to dig deep for that emotion. I have not released emotion like that since I was a child. I honestly had my grandmother in mind from the moment I opened my time capsule. She wore a lot of jumpsuits in her latter years. So when they were attacking my grandmother, my inspiration, I had to give them everything I had. I literally almost lost it.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What else in your life inspires you and sparks the creativity in your designs?

A. David: Seeing how people and things function in nature. I am an observer of beauty and the little things that make me stop and dream.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: With all the hype about how experienced and talented Cesar is, what was going through your mind when you were standing next to him in the bottom two? Were you surprised?
A. David: I was surprised to be standing next to Cesar and not Cindy. But I saw it coming a mile away, it was my time to go.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Did you feel that Calvin or Cindy should have been on the chopping block instead of you?
A. David: I felt that Cindy should have been on the chopping block. Just like my emotions from the jumpsuit episode, Cindy brought the tears.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: After your experience on The Fashion Show, what is your biggest hope for your future as a designer?
A. David: My character as a person is what mattered to me after The Fashion Show. I stayed true to myself and my beliefs. This will build a strong future for me as a designer. I would like to be known as the designer's designer because character is everlasting.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Do you think you'll ever collaborate with Dominique?
A. David: That'd be fun. I'd love to collaborate with Dominique! Her aesthetic and mine are very similar. Actually I have a project that I am working on that just might interest her. You just might see collaboration during Fall 2011 Fashion Week in February.
