Hell's Kitchen Season 8

by Joshua Krol

The second hour of Hell's Kitchen begins with a mere ten chefs left in the competition. As the blue team won their first dinner service last time around the men feel reunited. This is before Ramsay calls the chefs to lineup. With Melissa consistently struggling, Ramsay thinks a change of scenery might do some good. After Gordy calls her forward he tells her to strip the red jacket and switch teams. Just as she buttons up her new blue jacket he calls on Trev to do the same. As Gordy hopes Trev will give the red team a voice, he hopes that Melissa will take this opportunity as a rude awakening and expects her to start producing.

Before Trev and Melissa can get acquainted with their new teams Gordy explains the next challenge. Each chef will have to produce an entrée salad that will be featured in Bon Appetite magazine as well as being featured on the menu for Hell's Kitchen dinner service.

Ramsay hopes to exploit the chef's creativity and innovation with this challenge and to help him judge the dishes; he invited food editor for Bon Appetite, Sarah Tenaglia, to Hell's Kitchen. As big Rob worries about his salad making abilities, Trev almost forgot what is was like to be surrounded by a bunch of girls. Getting fed up with Julian's constant questions, Trev is going to have to adapt quickly if he wants his new team to start winning.

Gail and Boris are the first to be critiqued by Ramsay and Sarah. Gail impresses the editor with her delectable scallop salad while Boris's looked more like soup than salad earning Gail the point. Rob also picked scallops for his dish which were cooked perfectly earning the blue team a point as well. Vinny and Julian both stumble while Russell impresses earning the blue team another point. Now it's up to new red team member Trev to pull his team into a tie and does so earning him respect on the red team. With a tie in place Sarah is forced to make a decision on which dish the best and will be the one that will be featured in Bon Appetite. Rob thought he would struggle through this challenge but in actuality his salad was picked as the favorite earning the blue team the tie breaking point and the win.

Way to pull it together on salad Rob despite your atrocious effort on salads a few weeks ago!

With Rob's underdog win, the blue team gets treated to lunch at the infamous Getty Villa. After the exquisite lunch, Rob is lead to the Bon Appetite photo shoot with Sarah and Gordy where Chef Ramsay cracked a couple fat jokes on Rob which he took smiling with double chins the whole way. Meanwhile, the losers must prep for the night's dinner service. Just when things were getting all flowery for the blue team at the Villa the red team was in for unexpected dinner salad of just that, flowers.

The blue team gets back from lunch and gets back in the kitchen. Ramsay is expecting Trev and Melissa to show their new teams why they are still there as they set to begin dinner service. Tonight there will be a VIP chef's table located in the corners of the kitchen where Rob and Julian will be taking orders. As they begin cooking Russell continues to impress and Boris struggles. Another strong start starts to tumble as the Melissa can't get the scallops right to save her life. Don't feel bad Melissa, Nona is also struggling with getting the scallops fully cooked as her attempts get sent back twice. An hour and a half into dinner service and not even the VIP's have received all of their entrees.

Eventually Melissa's failed scallop attempt catches up to her as the blue team eventually runs out of them. Meanwhile, Trev is making himself heard on the red team as he yells for garnish that is not being handled very well by Sabrina. Now two hours into dinner service each team is showing signs of improvement. All except for Boris who can't season mashed potatoes and as a result is asked to leave the kitchen by Ramsay. Finally, after two and a half hours of service the entrees are being pushed out and both teams finish strong. Ramsay is again disgusted with the rough service and asks each team to nominate one person for elimination. Guess who the red team picked (again)? That's right, Sabrina is sent to face Gordy along with Boris from the blue team. But Chef Ramsay has two nominees of his own: Nona and Melissa. After giving her the chance to redeem herself, Melissa is eliminated from the competition.
