The Apprentice Season 10

by David McAlpine

This week, on The Apprentice, he was called a "puppy dog" by his Project Manager David and a poor salesman by Trump. Now back at home, recent Apprentice firee Alex Delgado discussed the ice cream task and his last boardroom in a conference call with reporters.

Q. When you were in the cab ride home, you said that David put you in the position to fail on this task. How?
A. Alex: I didn't think Trump was going to base the winner solely on sales. I called David out during the last boardroom--Trump just looked at me and asked me who the weakest link was, and I said David. I called him out and so did some others so I think he asked James and I to go get the costumes so we would lose valuable time on the street. I thought I stepped up on the task.

Q. Was it coincidental that you ended up in the same place as the girls?
A. Alex: I initially thought we should have bought all the girls' ice cream and leave them high and dry, but I wanted to play fair. We had initially set up by the subway exit but we were then told that we had to be against the park and that all sales had to be within 10 feet of the park. I was walking up and down and selling a lot at stoplights, too, but I was yanked from that.

Q. How did you feel about David and his assessment of you being the weakest?
A. Alex: It was kind of surprising with the "puppy dog" think because I usually observe to start out. I like to see things before I leap, that's how I've lead my life. I don't throw caution to the win. I saw how things  were going to work for the task and then I made an assessment from there.

Q. Do you think David should have been fired?
A. Alex: I should not have been fired. We [David and I] discussed prior to the boardroom that he wasn't happy with me, he thought I did mediocre, but we went off of what James had said and we thought we moved two hours too late because, by then, everyone had vanished. It was really a toss up between whether James or David delayed that decision making.

Q. How confident were you after the task that your team won?
A. Alex: Clint's closing abilities were phenomenal, so my goal was to wrangle the customer, get them close to the cart and give them to Clint, then let me get out of there and get another customer. I knew by the time I got someone else over there, Clint would have closed the deal.

Q. Who stood out to you as someone you want to see succeed in the end?
A. Alex: From the moment I saw Gene, I saw he had a bowtie, a loud bowtie, and I knew I needed to get to know him. We hit it off right away and he's a fantastic guy and a great leader.
