Dancing With The Stars

This season opens with one of the most buzzed about casts yet! With reality stars like The Situation, Audrina Patridge, sports stars like Rick Fox and Kurt Warner, stars from past decades like Florence Henderson and David Hasselhoff, as well as notable names like Bristol Palin and The Situation, there’s someone for everyone to love and root for.

Celebrity: Audrina Patridge
Professional Partner: Tony Dovolani

Dance: Cha Cha

Breakdown: Audrina was a fast learner and picked the routine very quickly. She was so promising that she and Tony were selected to kick-off the show. Len Goodman praised her confidence and technique; she just needed to be a bit more feisty. Bruno Tonioli compared her to a show pony that needs be whipped into shape. She needs to push it further, be sharper. Carrie Ann commended her for starting it with a solo, but said she needs to work on her flow and connecting her face experessions to her body movements.

Scores: Carrie Ann: 6 Len: 7 Bruno: 6

Total: 19/30

Celebrity: Kurt Warner
Professional Partner: Anna Trebunskaya

Dance: Viennese Waltz

Breakdown: Kurt has a lot to live up to, with previous NFL stars all doing well in the competition, with Emmitt Smith taking home the disco ball trophy. Bruno was amazed by his grace, he has a natural charisma that draws eyes to his face. He had an easy connection with Anna and the audience. Carrie Ann and Bruno loved his performance and saw such potential in him. However, Len was not impressed. He didn’t see grace in his performance, at all.

Scores: Carrie Ann: 7 Len: 5 Bruno: 7

Total: 19/30

Celebrity: Kyle Massey
Professional Partner: Lacey Schwimmer

Dance: Cha Cha

Breakdown: A Disney star, he’s the youngest contestant on the show. Carrie Ann is officially in love with him! He moved really well, had great showmanship, and even got Len to compliment it. Bruno was floored, exclaiming that he’s a true entertainer.

Scores: Carrie Ann: 8 Len: 7 Bruno: 8

Total: 23/30

Celebrity: Rick Fox
Professional Partner: Cheryl Burke

Dance: Viennese Waltz

Breakdown: The height difference is definitely going to be a problem for this couple. He’s 6’7”, so it’ll be very hard for them to overcome that. Len didn’t mind the height difference. He did a great job with amazing posture and elegance. Bruno already sees a head to head between the sports stars, Rick Fox and Kurt Warner, brewing since they both had strong performances.

Scores: Carrie Ann: 8 Len: 7 Bruno: 7

Total: 22/30

Celebrity: Margaret Cho
Professional Partner: Louis Van Amstel

Dance: Viennese Waltz

Breakdown: Margaret Cho stopped dancing when she was a child because someone pointed out she was the fattest ballerina out there. She’s determined to dance like a lady. It was very bold for them to make jokes and play for laughs on the very first dance. Len and Carrie Ann thought it was inappropriate to bring those laughs into the Viennese Waltz in particular. She should have waited until after she could prove she could dance before bringing in the physical comedy.

Scores: Carrie Ann: 5 Len: 5 Bruno: 5

Total: 15/30

Celebrity:  Brandy
Professional Partner: Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Dance: Viennese Waltz

Breakdown: Carrie Ann noticed how comfortable she was on the floor. Her performance history definitely supports this. She was a little hard on hitting her spots, where this dance calls for grace and flow. Len feels she has amazing potential. Bruno was absolutely smitten by her performance and can’t wait to see what she does next week.

Scores: Carrie Ann: 7 Len: 8 Bruno: 8

Total: 23/30

Celebrity: Bristol Palin
Professional Partner: Mark Ballas

Dance: Cha Cha

Breakdown: Bristol Palin is probably the most buzzed about contestant this season. The routine opens with her dressed like her mom, but then she rips it off to reveal her real costume. Len recognized that she’s nervous, so her movements were small where they should have been big. Carrie Ann sees a future for her, which surprised herself most since she expected Bristol to be a bore. For not having any performance experience, she did a good job.

Scores: Carrie Ann: 6 Len: 6 Bruno: 6

Total: 18/30

Celebrity: Florence Henderson
Professional Partner: Corky Ballas

Dance: Cha Cha

Breakdown: At 76 years old, she’s the most mature of the contestants. She has experience on Broadway, so that dancing experience could help her through. She’s also a much saltlier partner than you would expect since we all know her as Mrs. Brady. The crowd gives her a standing ovation! Bruno loves her personality and performance, she just needs to work on her technique. Carrie Ann could tell she was having the time of her life. Len says her performance was great entertainment. He also complimented Corky for his work on getting Florence to the level she just performed at. It’s easier to work with a young star who has the energy to put in long hours, but he did a stellar job with Florence.

Scores: Carrie Ann: 6 Len: 6 Bruno: 6

Total: 18/30

Celebrity: Michael Bolton
Professional Partner: Chelsea Hightower

Dance: Viennese Waltz

Breakdown: He’s so used to hunching over a microphone, that Chelsea had him use a posture device to make him keep his frame during rehearsal. Carrie Ann feels he didn’t lead this dance as much as Chelsea. He was so serious, but when he would smile it would lighten the entire routine. Len still noticed posture problems, but I’m sure once he relaxes and gets used to it that will become less of an issue.

Scores: Carrie Ann: 6 Len: 5 Bruno: 5

Total: 16/30

Celebrity: Mike “The Situation” Sarontino
Professional Partner: Karina Smirnoff

Dance: Cha Cha

Breakdown: The most anticipated contestant this season, people just can’t get enough of the Jersey Shore. With only 5 days to rehearse, he had less time than anyone else to prepare. Len thinks he has potential, but can definitely tell he’s under-rehearsed. “He’s got the gun, but not the ammunition.” Bruno thinks he’ll look like a jackass if he keeps performing like that. This wasn’t good, but they can’t tell if it’s because of his talent or if it’s because of the time crunch he had.

Scores: Carrie Ann: 5 Len: 5 Bruno: 5

Total: 15/30

Celebrity:  Jennifer Grey
Professional Partner: Derki Hough

Dance:  Viennese Waltz

Breakdown: Dancing to “These Arms of Mine” brought Jennifer back to her days with Patrick Swayze on Dirty Dancing. That was a beautiful, emotional piece. Carrie Ann was on the verge of tears, commending her grace and performance. Len thought it was great, but is waiting to see next week’s performance when she can take on something lighter and faster.

Scores: Carrie Ann: 8 Len: 8 Bruno: 8

Total: 24/30

Celebrity:  David Hasselhoff
Professional Partner: Kym Johnson

Dance:  Cha Cha

Breakdown: The Hoff’s heart is in the right place, but he’s worried his body won’t be able to keep up. Carrie Ann was reminded of “a hybrid of Donny Osmond and Jerry Springer.” She could tell he felt sexy, but…there’s a lot of work to do. Len feels that “it’s never to early to panic.” With faster paced routines next week, he doesn’t think he’ll be able to to keep up. Bruno calls it a “potpourri of insanity” but would love to have him back for next week, just to see what he pulls off in the Quick Step.

Scores: Carrie Ann: 5 Len: 5 Bruno: 5

Total: 15/30

Margaret Cho, The Situation, and David Hasselhoff are tied for last with 15/30 total points. The votes will decide who goes home tomorrow night, so be sure to tune in!
