Big Brother Season 12

by Sandhurst Miggins

Picking up where the nominations left off on Big Brother, Britney has won her first HOH and she's out to get one and only one person. It's no shock to anyone that Brendon is up on the block... well, to anyone except Brendon, who actually believed that she wouldn't nominate him. He's pissed that she would go back on her word and in one of the most bizarre scenes this season, Brendon lays down and says a little prayer to Rachel. Okay, I'm officially freaked out by this guy now.

Enzo isn't happy to be the pawn this week and rightfully so. He's up against Brendon who tends to dominate POV competitions when his back is up against the wall and let's just say that Enzo isn't really the best competitor. Even though Britney honestly confides in him

that Brendon is the definite target this week, Enzo is still on edge.

As Enzo is finishing up his discussion with Britney, Hayden and Lane begin to brainstorm possible moves. They realize that the longer they let Matt stay in the house, the stronger his chances grow to win the money. Out of all of the guys, he's won more HOHs, so he's a strong competitor and the real problem is, they know he would have more votes from the jury seeing that he's friends with both sides. Hayden decides that this week, if any of the nominees win the POV, that the plan of attack should be to backdoor Matt.

In what seems to be the most game changing move of the season so far, Lane plants the seed in Britney (um...that sounded dirtier than I meant it to be) to backdoor Matt (again, no pun intended). Lane makes some excellent points while talking to Britney. He reminds her of Matt's strengths at HOH challenges and pushes her to believe that because of this, he's a threat to everyone else. Lane makes the most prolific point of the night when he tells Brit that Brendon is alone now that Rachel is gone so he shouldn't be the target this week because he is basically in an alliance with himself. They could always pick him off later.

This, to me, was the first time we got to see Lane play the mental game of Big Brother and "gosh darn it", the boy is good. However, even though her main ally in the house does provide her with strong points against Matt, Britney is set in her ways demanding that her nominations stay the same.

It's time to choose the players for the Veto competition and all of the houseguests will take part in some form or another. Britney gets to choose her player and instead of choosing Lane, she goes for Matt, knowing he would leave the nominations the same. Brendon ends up picking Lane out of the bag anyway and Enzo draws Hayden. Ragan, by default, is chosen to be the host. For this POV, the players start off with 50 veto points. They must be quick on the draw to buzz in first to accept an offer that Big Brother proposes. The first person to buzz in gets the off but everyone who accepts it gets the points. For every punishment they accept, they will gain more points, however, with every prize they accept, they will have lose points. Their points are kept secret from each other with the person with the most points winning the POV.

The challenge is basically a test of wits. At the end of the competition Britney, with the belief that everyone wanted Brendon to go, was shocked to learn that all the prizes had been accepted telling her that some of the guys were not playing to win the Veto. It's funny but it doesn't matter what she does, Britney just can't seem to get rid of Brendon. His strategy of taking every bad punishment paid off for as Brendon won his 3rd POV. Casualties of the challenge included Enzo's clothes, which were shipped off to a charity far, far away. Brendon's hair was shaved bald and Britney lost her happiness.

Cue the waterworks. After the competition, Britney, still furious that the prizes were all accepted when she was fighting so hard for Brendon to leave, blames Hayden, Lane, and Enzo for not taking the POV competition seriously. Even though no one knows that Hayden is indeed the one who accepted the majority of the prizes, Lane decides that this is the perfect tool to turn Britney against Matt. He falls on his sword, revealing that he did accept one of the prizes but told Britney that he thought Matt took all the others because he knew he was safe this week. Great lie, Lane! Britney couldn't help but believe Lane's accusation.

Seeing that there is now a vacant spot on the block, the scrambling is on. Matt asks Britney what she's thinking and when his name comes out of her mouth, he makes the biggest blunder of the season. He throws his biggest cheerleader and the one person who truly has his back in this game under the proverbial bus, stating that he isn't as close to Raganas Ragan likes to say and that Britney should put Ragan up seeing the majority of the house wouldn't be mad at her. Hearing this gives Britney the second shock of the episode after Brendon winning the POV.

Pandora offers up her box again to the HOH (I swear I'm not trying to be dirty). This time Britney has the choice of leaving it closed or opening it to receive an hour of advice from a houseguest from a previous season. Like everyone else, she opens it. I wonder what CBS would do if someone didn't open it? Turns out the former houseguest is Jessie, as in Mr. Olympia Jessie, and her advice? Let's just say it's Britney's third shock of the episode. Jessie is there to give her personal training advice, while the six remaining guys are treated to a BBQ.

After the hour of training is complete, Britney's night gets even worse when it's time for two of Brendon's accepted POV punishments to start. In his efforts to win the POV, Brendon also chose to be hand cuffed to Britney for 24 hours as well as to take a bath in chum every hour for a period of 24 hours. Chained together, Brendon begins his smelly hourly bath with Britney in tow. Being chained to the one person in the house she dislikes the most while he soaks in chum is not exactly how Britney saw her HOH reign going.

As the POV ceremony draws near, Matt starts referring to himself, once again, as a Brigade member. He is desperately trying to have Lane convince Britney to nominate Ragan while also trying to chummy back up to Hayden and Enzo. The problem Matt, is that it's too late and to make matters worse, you already showed who you truly were to Britney. Lane and the other members of their alliance have already issued Matt his dishonorable discharge papers from the Brigade and is pushing the fact that Matt is obviously disloyal as the main reason to get him onto the block.

Britney, overcome by Matt's disloyalty, decides to tell Ragan, in so many words at least, that certain people were campaigning against him. Just before the Veto ceremony Ragan in a hushed whisper asks Britney outright, "Did Matt throw me under the bus?" to which Britney nodded, "Yes" the expression of disappoint and hurt could be seen through Ragan's shades and it was no surprise that after Brendon took himself off the block that Matt was put there in his place.

I am now actually really anxious to see if Matt is able to find some way out of this one because turning on Ragan, of all people in that house, seems to be the stupidest move this self proclaimed "Genius" has made all season.
