Ashley Galvan from So You Think You Can Dance Season 7

First, Alex Wong and now, Ashley Galvan. Last night, on So You Think You Can Dance, another injured dancer was forced out of the competition much too early. Contemporary dancer Ashley came into the Top 11 virtually unknown but made a quick impression on the judges and fans, making her a dark horse candidate to make it to the finale. A fractured rib has doctors advising against her dancing for weeks, and judge Nigel Lythgoe announced last night that she would be leaving, sparing Billy Bell and Jose Ruiz, who landed in the bottom three. Today, Ashley spoke to RealityWanted and reporters in a press conference call today about her injury, her elimination, and her future plans.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Coming into the Top 11, not many people knew you. Did that worry you at all?
A. Ashley: No, I wasn't worried. I know that I was kind of not shown or put out there in the beginning. I think that was best for me. I am shy at first but I get out there.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Has there been any talk of returning for season 8, as the judges did with Alex?
A. Ashley: If I get asked to come back, I probably would but then again, I don't know because I am looking forward to doing the tour.

Q. What happened and how did you injure yourself?
A. Ashley: I injured myself the third week into the competition. I was doing one specific lift, during the duet with Ade, and it was a really fun lift but it was hard. I think that's when I started feeling the pain and I know it developed into a bruised rib and then, somewhere along the way, it was fractured. I'm hoping that I recover fast!

Q. How much pain are you in and what are you doing to occupy your time?
A. Ashley: I was sad to leave. I am currently just laying down because that's what the doctors told me to do. They said a lot of rest would help the recovery process. I'll probably catch up on tv shows that I haven't gotten to watch.

Q. Will you be in the audience watching?
A. Ashley: I hope I get to come back and watch. That will probably be the finale but until then, I'll be supporting from home so I make a quick recovery.

Q. What was the experience like for you and what were your expectations?
A. Ashley: Going into this, I didn't know what to expect. I didn't know what the rehearsals were going to be like. I didn't know how I would learn the routines and be great. I just loved every moment of it. I got to grow as a dancer. I got to have new experiences like hip hop and the quickstep. I'm sad that I didn't get to do more of that but I had a great time on the show.

Q. What has been the reaction from your fellow competitors?
A. Ashley: We all connected very well and we are a family. When someone is injured, everyone is there for them. It was just an amazing thing and now that I'm gone, they told me last night that it wasn't going to be the same without me. It won't be the same for me

Q. What was your favorite part of the whole experience?
A. Ashley: My favorite part was probably the contestants and being able to dance with the all stars. Everybody has an amazing personality. It's great to go into something and not know what the outcome will be and then you get so close to people and it's amazing. Not continuing in the competition is sad but I'm rooting for them and I know that they're still going to put on a great show. I'll be back.

Q. You are Robert had a really good rapport. What do you think that the viewers aren't getting about him?
A. Ashley: Robert and I are like best friends. He means a lot to me and to see him in the bottom that much was really... I didn't get it at all because he has a great personality. He's an amazing dancer and he was always there for me. I don't know what everybody didn't see in him. He's been safe the past two weeks and I hope that he continues to do well and be safe in the competition.

Q. If you are well, does that mean you'll be on the tour?
A. Ashley: Yeah, actually, if I do get better within 4-5 weeks, I will be on the tour!

Be sure to tune in when the Top 6 take the stage on So You Think You Can Dance, Wednesday night at 8/7c on Fox.
