Season 6 of The Next Food Network Star is upon us. Doreen Fang was eliminated last night when the committee decided that she just couldn’t find her point of view. Doreen has a fabulous food blog www.diningwithdoreen.com and sat down with Reality Wanted today to let us know what her experience was all about.
Q. Chandra, Reality Wanted: What inspired you to go on The Next Food Network Star?
A. Doreen: Last January, I was flying to Seattle for the day, with one of my girlfriends and we were just going to Pike Place Market to eat and come right back home. I was on the plane and I had been traveling all over just to eat at places, and to find the best of something and I thought, you know what I would love to do something like this as a living. I want to share my love for food and do it as a TV host and get into it. So it got me thinking, and my best friend and business partner told me they were having an open casting call for the show and I thought this would be the best thing for me. I went to the casting call, and now here I am.
Q. Chandra, Reality Wanted: Bob Tuschman mentioned to me that your personality just didn’t come through on the show. What do you think of that and what happened?
A. Doreen: I think that they definitely showed a person that was more indecisive and obviously there is a story that they have to tell. That is not someone I usually am. I am super spontaneous, I love sharing who I am, and sharing my love for food. Being there is very stressful it is a completely different situation and unless you actually live it, it is so hard for people to criticize it. You are thrown into something very foreign. I have no regrets and I loved the experience, no matter what you learn something about yourself and you move forward.
Q. Chandra, Reality Wanted: What was the experience like?
A. Doreen: I really love being in front of the camera and I know there was a couple times I looked at the wrong camera! There are so many people there when you are filming and you just want to do your best, I think that sometimes because we care so much and you are trying to do your best and you get flustered a little bit. Overall, it can get easier, I had a very short stint, but the camera can be your friend, and I really enjoyed it.
Q. Chandra, Reality Wanted: What did you think of the other people on the show?
A. Doreen: I really loved most of the people there. I think that really surprised me, you come into the show and you are so focused about doing your best, cooking your ass off and winning this thing. I was so blown away by the people I met and I have friendships with these people that I think I will keep for the rest of my life.
Q. Chandra, Reality Wanted: What is next for you?
A. Doreen: I think the sky is the limit. I am still doing Dining With Doreen (www.diningwithdoreen.com) where I travel or go to different restaurants that someone is introducing me to, or there is something that is brand new to me that I have never had, and I film that and bring someone with me that I like to experience with them. I am sharing my love of travel and food and tying it all together. That is what food does; it ties everything together and ties people together.
